    I was told today that there was an iminient price rise in the pipeline that will apply to a July build car. Details not yet known but told not to panic as it wouldn't be massive.

    Has anyone any further information on this?

    I'm more woried about September when Ferrari Spa are due to complete purchase of Ferrari UK.

    This is the first i've heard of it.

    So Inchcape is selling Ferrari UK to Ferrari Spa.

    That's quite something.

    How did you find out ?
    Was there a press announcement or something?

    As I understand it Ferrari UK did not get a vote. It is much the same as Mercedes have recently done to their dealers.

    The first I heard was in October from Ferrari France - they got bought up last year by Ferrari Spa and admitted that Ferrari was methodically buying up all the concessionaires in Europe. They believed that Ferrari UK was next. Sure enough, the Scuderia Systems boys recently confirmed that their contacts at Ferrari UK said it was going to happen this September.

    I was also aware that authorised dealers in the UK had been visiting Ferrari Spa complaining of Maranello Sales/Ferrari UK's manipulation of allocations due to joint Inchcape ownership. They used a threat of using bloc exemption under EU law as a stick. As a stop gap, Ferrari Spa had increased allocations to other dealers. This may come as bad news to those of us (inc. me) who have orders with Maranello Sales as we have just suffered a delay in the receiving of our cars!!

    They are also taking over all the FOC's internationally. I presume Ferrari Spa will justify these actions based on maintenance of service standards. However, the following would (for the sake of legality and protecting Rob, make that "could") be other advantages:

    - they can stop dealers squabbling and avoid EU legal action
    - they can increase the size of the company should Fiat need to sell it off
    - they can ensure RHD premiums continue
    - improve margins by raising prices for cars and parts. Subsidising servicing costs via increased charges for parts would also put a squeeze on specialists.


    Call me a cynic but I don't see any benefts for the customer in the above................

    As for benefits under EU laws, I would be interested to know if they will take over Ferrari NA.

    Doesn't really suprise me about F.UK as I heard the franchise was up towards the end of last year anyway. I geuss that means F.Spa didn't renew it and on that basis would have got it at a pretty reasonable price then.

    As for the FOC as far as I can tell from all the news reports that it's by no means a done deal and I suspect the FOC will not go with out a fight (and quite rightly so, in my view). We shouldn't allow big brother F.Spa to push us around despite that I believe it will be a benifit to members in the long run.
    This subject has been well aired in the past so I'll leave it there.

    I received an update today. Apparently there has been an increase in the list price but that is offset by on the road charges being included in the new list price. I have been told that this will result in a net REDUCTION of a few hundred pounds, but I still await a total cost price. I am also told that this realignment took place with effect from 1/3/04.

    Are you talking about the Recommeneded Delivery Charge?? Or has this always been £2.245.00

    Not 100% sure. I think it means the £2,245 will be no longer andbnthe official price of the car will be higher, which would bring Fcars in line with other cars. When I first considered a 360M, I assumed the price was just over £103k so the additional £2,245, not to metion road tax and first registartion fee, came as a bit of a shock. A further charge seems to be the tracker upgrade, which is inconsistent between dealers. I have been told that the changes will mean that the overall cost id standard throughout the UK.

    I will let you know when I get all the facts which, for some reason, seem to be hard to come by. So long as there is a net reduction I will be happy!

    I went into the dealer today to check this. They got all of the paperwork they have been sent by Ferrari UK (which included the margin they make) and we went through the new price and the old.

    Basically the new price is about 50quid more than the price to 1/3/03 but it now includes all deliver charges which before were added as a recommended price.

    I did forget to check if the new price included the tracker so this would need to be checked. It does include road tax.

    Any clues as to the margin they make? That's a very interesting bit of insight if it can be shared...

    I heard from Ferrari UK management (albeit indirectly) that their margin was in the region of £20k.

    The following is a quote from a Main dealer.

    "Ferrari has not increased its prices, but has re-aligned them in the UK. Ferrari has included the delivery and the addition of Navtrak Active Driver Recognition system to the basic cost of the car, but overall the only difference between the pre March and post March prices is the cost of the ADR system at £250."

    As I was being charged somthing in the region of £550 for the ADR system this is a net reduction.
