I read in last weeks/come this weeks Autocar, that Ferrari has said to Autocar that they will be releasing 360 model with a new engine. It should be 470 BHP V8 engine from the Maserati 4200 GT. It will have a the Maserati V8 drive drain that will allow it to rev to 9000 rpm. They said the current V8 engine is easy good for 500 BHP but will most probably go with 470 BHP for more reliability. The 360 will probably be called the 430 or 470, not for sure. The article reads that the body styling of the 360 will not change much.

The new 360 will not be released for some time (2006/7) since their is currently a two year waiting list for the 360 and three years waiting list for the spyder in the USA.

Great things to come from the Ferrari again......

Sorry, but me thinks this is BS. I find it hard to believe that there will be few changes to the 360 by 2007. I can however believe the 4200 engine would be used in a new model but Ferarri need to be sure people don't just think an Fcar is a pricy Mcar

Wow, they are using the "waiting list" for a reason to hold off building a new car.

Does this mean more 360CS ?

Ferrari looks real brave to stick with 400hp and not worry about all the 500hp cars for a few more years.

    I also call BS, ie:

Er, Maseratis have the engine in the FRONT and the F360 in the rear, thus there is NO way they could use the Maserati drive train ...

Have to disagree. Ferrari France advised me that Ferrari Spa want to maximise the return from the investment put into tooling the 360 production line - it was a big amount since they were changing to all aluminium parts.
As such, they were never going to change many body panels when designing the follow up.

As Ferrari Spa channel their funds unto buying out concessionaires across Europe the frugality of not spending more at home seems to be common sense.

This isn't B.S. I heard the samething, there would be a revised 360 probably called a 420, it would have the 4.2 V8 with 5 Valves per cylinder and a flat crank. There would be minor changes to the bodywork until a new car arrives in 2007.

I will try and repost the article when I can but it was from a very trustworthy source.

So if the 360 is only coming out in 2006/2007 does this mean we will see a 360 Evoluzione model maybe next year or the year after? (rumors I'v heard).

I got THIS info from www.Italiaspeed.com (mostly a pretty reliable site)

    2004
    -612 SCAGLIETTI (46%-54%) (already here)
    -600 MARANELLO (autumn: 6.0 V12 630bhp, 45%-55%)
    2005
    -600 BARCHETTA
-400 (MONZA?) (V8 derived from V12 Enzo, 500hp, cosmetic changes)
    2006
    400 Spider
    2007
-F60 (new supercar with V12 and over 800hp to celebrate 60th anniversary of Ferrari)

BTW, the 308-body was upgraded to the 328, the 348-body to the 355. Why shouldn't they do the same with the 360 to a 400? Keeping the major bodywork but improving the car and the engine.

I heard the same thing with the exception of the F60 (never heard that before) and that the V8 will be based on the 4.2 with different heads and a flat crank putting out about 475-480 bhp.

As far as the 360 needing to be replaced 2 years ago, you must be kidding right? If it needs to be replaced why is there still 2 years worth of orders?

    No.

Why is it so hard to believe that Ferrari won't change a thing on the 360 for another two years?

F-chat members love to spout off about how there are still "massive waiting lists" for the 360, so what's the problem?

    PLUS

Montezemolo himself has said that the next version of the 360 CANNOT BE PRODUCED in the volumes necessary for launch until the next Maranello is done and out the door (mid 2005).

The Autocar article seems spot on, and it's nothing that I haven't posted here as far back as three months ago:

    -Maser derived engine
    -475HP
    -2006

What was news to me is that there will only be subtle changes in the 360's body. Big mistake. Tacking on an Enzo front to a 360's body doesn't make it a whole new car Luca. Not when there will be lightweight 600+HP Gallardo SVs prowling the streets by the time the 420 arrives.

They don't have to replace it, its just a new model.
They still make the 512m because i saw this in the factory of ferrari!!!with a event in from the Netherlands and they make the 575, so why do they have to stop producing the 360 model. Because of a new one?

Let me just try to get this straight. I haven't read the Autocar article but it seems there are two ways what has been said can be read.

Reading 1) - the 360 replacement will arrive 2006/2007 and it will have the Masser engine and look like a 360.

Reading 2) - the current 360 will be face lifted, have a Masser engine fitted but this will be replaced with a new nodel around 2006/2007.

I hope the second one is correct because I fear that a face lifted replacment to the 360, albeit with a few more ponies, will not 'cut the mustard' by 2007.

    Guys,

With regards to engine they have said the current V8 in the 360 can be increased to 4.3, 4.7 and even 5.0 litres without any trouble. This is why there is speculation that the new generation 360 will be called the 430 or 470 due its greater engine size. This was announced by the chief Ferrari engine designer....

I was a bit out of it last night after visiting the hospital and made a mistake between the litres and BHP.

They said the maserat V* currently has a flat plain that will increase rpm.s to 9000...

Thats awesome! So that means 3 years from now, when the rest of the world is running 600hp baby supercars, Ferrari will be battling them with 470hp! Forza Ferrari!

Ferrari officials in Geneva said, the Modena successor will come in spring 2005 at the latest, perhaps even earlier (presentation Paris motor show?).

ALL sources say, the 360 will be replaced soon and let's face it, Ferrari has to react, better today than tomorrow. IMO talking about a successor in 2007 is just to mislead press and customers.

This seems to ignore the fact that they have far more urgent need to replace the 550/575 than the 360... the 360 has WAITING LISTS... still... and the 550/575 was introduced in 97... its been running for 2 years longer than the 360. The only thing that was older was the 456... and it just got replaced. The logical progression would be 550/575 replacement in 2005 and the 360 replacement in 2006 or 2007. But as with the 575, a 360 evolution for the masses (as opposed to the CS for the track-going crowd) would be reasonable interim... or perhaps its just the additional options recently announced.
