there are two different size catalitic converters for US model 348's. Part #134001 and #134002. Which side does the larger one go on?

i'm trying to trouble shoot a resonnance I'm getting at certain RPM's ever since the cats were put back (Car had test pipes previously), and before I take the whole thing apart to just check the status of the cats I want to verify that they are each ontheir corresponding side.

    thanks,

    vincent.

Why exactly are you putting the cats back on?
Removal of cats has actually eliminated problems for me..?

I just checked mine (1990 ts) and they both visually looked the same. I then took a tape measure and they are the same. I'm not sure what that means for you/me?

I'm not sure either. Mine is a 92 and the cats are definitely two different sizes, with the passenger side being larger.

    Anybody else?

I have just had my cats repaired.
My car is a 1993 TS and the cats are identical.

If you think about it. I'll bet the previous owner replaced just one cat. At over $1000 from the dealer, they probably didn't wanna spend any more money. That's just my guess.

    Vincent,

My CAT converters are the same sizes too.

BTW, I just had my smog check last month. I was surprised that it passed with 1 damaged CAT (catalyst gone).

    Good luck!

My 348 passes WA State emissions with flying colors sans cats. Have you tried it without them?

I just put aftermarket (randomtechnology) cats on mine and they are smaller than the factory ones. I agree that if yours are different sizes, someone likely replaced one.

I had test pipes and never took a smog test, but I can tell you mine had a bad overrich stink with the test pipes that went away as soon as I put the cats on. The sound is not quite as "sharp", and it might not rev quite as quickly, but it feels just as strong, and you can drive it without stinking up your clothes.

I've replaced mine for ($325ea). Both sides are the same size, however, they are different from side to side.
