I thought I'd let anyone who is interested that I just got confirmation from Ferrari SPA that the aluminium roll bar weighs only 3.5kg(not the 15-20kg that was quoted by some). As its very light I have added it therefore to my options list.

Yeah, but we all know Ferrari SpA has funny scales! ;)

Seriously, though... 3.5kg rollbar?? That sounds too good to be true.
I'd have thought 5kg a small miracle. 3.5kg? I'd need confirmation from someone with non-suspect scales before I believed that.

At 3.5Kg I fear that it will be no stronger than a Coke can

Remember it is aluminium and not steel/cast iron!!
Whether it is any stronger than an aluminium coke can I can't say however!

you would have to assume that if they put it in the car, it must have been tested to be strong enough.

Something sounds fishy. Doesn't a 2 inch dia Aluminum tube .250 thick weigh about 2#/Ft? 3.5 kg is 7.7 lbs so this "roll bar" has only a total length of of under 4ft.

    Alex,

Any chance you could ask them what happened to the advertised weight and the actual weight for the rest of the car.
I for one would be extreemly interested in the response.

    Cheers

    I'll second that.

And if you get an answer, follow up with... and what makes the US model so much heavier than the Euro model?

    ;) :D
