I have always heard a 5% gain in horsepower when you install a K&N. Was wondering if you 348'ers have any experience with this and what you opinion is. Thanks!

Thanks John. That definitely shed some light on my question! :)

Some say there's a gain of 5-10 horses; others dispute that.

More important though, K&N filter apparently sucks more
"dirt"particles into your engine. This is why I decided against it.

At least in my 3.2, on the dyno, the paper element cost about 10 hp and the K&N cost about 5 hp over no air cleaner. Would imagine the 348 would be similar.

Definitely makes some more intake noise. Any other aspects will be hotly debated on both sides.... :)

BTW, I have one on my 328GTS

I found a greater increase in my performance when I installed an aluminum shift knob!

A KN air filter will not give you a noticable increase in performance.

What it will give you, is a longer lasting filter, but you'll have to buy the 'rejuvenation' kit for it to do so.

In my estimation, KN over-evaluates it's product!

I have used them in my TR and 360. Technically, not sure of the advantages other than what they advertise.

I wonder what a titanium knob and prancing horse tire valve caps may do?

A fresh wash and wax will probably give back 5 HP, especially if you also do the bottom of your car as I do from time to time. (I know, get my head examined).

ou, ou, I just realized that I have a brand new aluminum shift knob going on my TR, and will be rolling it out this spring with some other changes too. I will not be able to trace the real contributor to any performance improvement although I believe the real change will be from the low restricition Borla exhaust system I installed. NO CATS and nicer plumbing!

The valve caps are worth at least a 15 horsepower gain by themselves with a titanium shift knob I'd say at least 35 hp gain :) Now if you really want to make it fast switch to Italian Air in the tires :)

I was informed that the K&Ns are likely to contaminate your "Hitzdraht-Anemometer" (this is the German word, I am talking about the device that measures how much air is streaming into your engine ...) with silicon. This in consequence will affect its function.

    So I decided against K&Ns.

I bathe once per K&N Filter post.

    Unfortunately, I'm bathing constantly.

    Please post dyno results!

    LOL!

Well, if any HIPO air filtration device really worked VS the downside, then every manufacturer would already have them as original.

I suppose if you take off all filtration, you might pick up an incremental increase in HP.

But, I think you are asking if there is any downside to the modification.

Well, if it's dusty or sandy climate, of course there is. At the 1/4 mile , there is no filtration at all.

Sooooo... If the climate is favorable, I'd use one! Lots of sand here in Florida, so I don't use one, as much as I'd like to.

They do have a great sound when that intake gulps air!
