What is the best 3x8 series?

$30,000 for a 308 or $100,000 for a 355 or $200,000 for a 360 Spider !

best: 328 GTS, ABS ('89)

not the best 3x8 series cars: 208 GT/4, 308 GT/4, 208 Turbo versions, GTSi 2V Versions, heavy US-chassis, (Mondial is another world)

Of the 308's the best are the Quattrovalvole's.Then of course the 328's are even better,but I prefer the look of the 308's interior with the toggle switches,retro.

 

GTS/GTB (carburated): sounds awesome, fun to tinker with from a DIY'er point of view.

GTBi/GTSi: I know these cars get a lot bad rap from folks, but I've also seen some people on this board speak well of them.

GTB/GTS QV: Nicely balanced, bugs gone from earlier injected version, haven't heard much bad press about it. Even the old Ferrari dealer up here would recommend this car (and believe me, he's very critical about F-cars).

1985 Euro 308GTS

Lower weight than US 308 or 328... hundreds of pounds less

No "driver aids" and weight mongers like ABS

Very little electronics, easy to fix things like heater controls, etc

More curvacious body than 328

Love carbs and all, but FI is easier to maintain

Oh yeah, Euro version.

 

Ain't it the truth. The Euro version of any car is to die for!!!!! There's an 85 Euro 308 in one of the F-Car clubs up here and it truly stands out of the bunch.

Sound files can vary GREATLY due to different exhausts used. Stock in the 308GTS QV here was Ansa, yet this has been changed to a totally custom job. It is big, loud, and loveable. There are some sound files at http://www.ferrari308.com/ , but none are of the 308 that resides here.

Yes, and what we also MUST remember is that the Euro has no cat pipes, has 9.2:1 compression (versus the US 8.8:1). Even the cam timing is more aggressive

So the Euro 308 QV is indeed a DIFFERENT car (per se) than the US version in ways that DO make it also perform better. The lower weight of the Euro combined with better performance does indeed make for a more enjoyable package IMHO. Also, having no cat pipes means it runs cooler and more free flowing


But hey, i'd trade it title for title for a US spec Enzo

We're gonna got to 9.2 or so when we put in the stainless valves.

Right now I'm proving that the 8.8 piston engines can actually run well on REGULAR octane pump gas.

I disagree, I still think the 75 gt4 is the best.
and I will conceed that the 308GTB is prettier

cooler seats
much easier engine access
less smog stuff
exempt in CA for smog

Enzo Ferrari liked it, he even had a mock-up made where he moved the seats forward and backwards trying to get what he felt was the best driving position. plus it is a Dino, and Enzo loved his son above all else. It even has even serial numbers just like other dinos and the race cars

i know many dont like the styling ( I still think it is molto bene) and the it is still the cheapest ferrari available. But just ask anyone who has owned or driven one. It is funny as many people say oh they make great track cars. meaning they handle great.

Did I mention easy engine access. If you work on your car like I do this has to go to the top of the list. PS the previous owner of my car still wants to buy it back, and he has had 275, lussos, 365 2+2, etc.

dont get me wrong I love every Ferrari and every 8 cylinder model, I just think that the gt4 gets a bad rap considering what it has to offer, look at my profile and tell me its ugly..........

I can certainly attest to that! The handling and visibility are just GREAT! Above all of the other cars Ive been lucky enough to drive, the responsiveness of the steering on the GT4 has yet to be matched. All that aside, the thing most lovable about the GT4 is the sound...What a sound with the carbs chirping!

Is it the best of the 3x8 series? Who knows...thats all subject to opinion. It is a fantastic car though.

 

Thanks for sticking up for us lowly 348 drivers! Sheesh, 20 posts, and yours was the first one supporting the 348. Maybe Rob should rename the board "308and328Chat.com" ;-)
