    Wow.... I'm still loopy over Need4Speed's Opel GT from the "Non Ferrari Projects" thread.

    I think I might like one of my own and have lots of questions...

    How much should I expect to pay for a nice original or a resto job? I don't want to sink too much money into it, except to cover updated wheels, maybe a lowering, and a stereo.

    It would have to be used as a daily driver, is this realistic?

    How scarce are parts?

    Are there any mechanics in the Atlanta area?


    Any help is very much appreciated!!!

    Knew someone who sold one of these to a 'learning impaired' individual, told him it was a Dino; got a pretty penny too.

    They pop up on eBay pretty frequently. And there is ample parts support and technical support thru the "opelgt.com" site. They have 4 cars listed for sale there now.

    They are pretty, just not too fast.

    I spotted one in overgrown weeds the other day.

    isnt an opel GT a corvette with a slightly diferent body?

    ummm NO. made 1968 to 1973 Russelshiem design studio ( germany) GM designer Clare MacKichan. lots of corvette influence in the lines of the car.115 inch motor, about 90 hp,around 1900 pounds i think. crappy worm and roller steering.approx 104,000 1.9 liter cars were made. only the 1,9 came to the USA, the 1.1 liter car was euro only. neat car, fun if you put in a ford 302.............. reaper that i am.......!

    the only Opel I have ever seen in the U.S. has been the GT, thankfully.

    the GT is a very, very small car.

    Hi Luke,

    There are a number of interesting swaps that have been done and are being done. The s2000 is one along with turbo 4s, turbo rotaries, v6s, v8s, you name it. They are fun cars to have fun with. And as for being "not too fast", let's say that I did a track day at Willow Springs and the previous version M3 was not able to run away from me. So if you consider the last M3 a "not too fast" vehicle, then my GT is "not too fast". :)

    Oh and for the record, the GT was designed before the Corvette Stingray.

    Oh, there are Opel owners in Georgia that I can hook you up with if you want.

    the Opel GT is terrific - the first car I ever fell in love with in HS and the first manual transmission (..graunch...) I ever drove. A popular conversion at the time was putting in a Buick V-6....
