FYI 355 melting console

    I just stripped my 355 console of the rubber coating. It took some time but was not as bad as I thought. The underside is black pastic and is not bad looking. This seems to be a large problem for this model.
    I started with "goo remover", but soon relized that just rubbing it with a rag took it right off. One needs to watch out because Ferrari will sometime use grey plastic on some parts. usally buttons.
    I was told the UV light breaks down the rubbery coat. It was put on to give it a nicer look. I thought anyone with this problem might like to know.

    Mac, are you going to refinish it or just leave it "stripped"?

    Did you use the product "goof off" or another product?

    I think this is a common 355 problem. I have it on my 98. what products did you use?

    It is a common problem!

    If Ferrari had better R&D, it should never have happened.

    There have been a lot of posts on this refurb and I've tried the suggested Plasticoat rubberized paint extensively. But after restoreing a bunch of them...I find Rustolium Aerosol "Satin" black to be the best by far. It looks as good as the original, is much easier to use well, and is really durable when you are done. Other than the tactile difference...it's better than new. Good for every black plastic part/rubber coated part in the 355 except the a/c module.

    It looks pretty good without anything on it. I might not push my luck.
    I started by using goo remover, but i really did not need it. A rag and elbow grease is all you need. I looks 100% better.

    I too have the dreaded problem with the gooey stikcky black parts.

    Air vents, Door levers, Console, All window and other toggle switches and the top and bottom steering wheel assembly cover.

    Sound like a lot of you guys have found ways of cleaning the mess off and then painting or replacing the parts.

    Would anyone please share the solution with me?

    What are you using to clean the stuff or whow sells replacement parts?

    I'm desparate!

    Literally dozens of threads in the archives...try using the search function on the upper left of the page. This is not a new problem. It has been an issue with the TR's, 348's, 355's, etc.
