I know what the terrorists want: you claim it's some pollyeanna, great aspiration, self-rule or self-destiny but that is unadulterated BS and you KNOW it. What they want is to keep their women in head-to-toe shrouds, keep them from owning ANYTHING, have the right to murder them at will for "looking at a man in the eyes", to inflict brutal genocide by whatever means are necessary or readily at hand, keep their oil profits to build palaces while their people live in squalor, basically prevent ANYTHING that even remotely resembles MODERNITY from threatening their stranglehold on their people. Why, because once people see how the West really is and what modern conveniences and capitalism are REALLY like, they don't WANT to walk around in burkhas looking at the ground and living by candlelight. As for the voracity of the terrorists religious beliefs, that too is BS. Bin Laden's family became billionnaires through rebuilding religious buildings and I am quite sure he and his terribly DEVOUT Islamic family lived in splendor. When he was fighting with the Mujahadin (spelling?) in the '80s he would frequent discos and bars in Lebanon and partied hard like an American college freshman. The 9/11 hijackers were frequenting STRIP clubs in the days leading up to 9/11. So much for Allah, why did they need to do that when they were hours away from all the VIRGINS they could ever want? These so-called devout followers of Islam LOVE all the West has to offer when they are behind closed doors. I read Qsay and Udday had several Ferraris at on of the palaces. Excuse but I have been ALL OVER THE WORLD many times...now WHO is being insulting? I don't have to GO to an Islamic country, as I stated I do business with 2 developers from Iran and one from Iraq (who incidentally was a nuclear engineer by trade and left in 1983 because, in his words "I knew what Saddam would MAKE me do with my degree and knowledge"; he now is one of the premier builders in the $1 million and up estate home market here in Atlanta) My friends have TOLD me the TRUTH and what really goes on in those countries, what it is like to LIVE there, not what we see on CNN or read about in the NY Times (Jason Blair...HA!) and other leftist-leaning shatrags.

Again, I mean NO disrespect. Does it really surprise you that what citizens who KNOW say life is like and the accounts of the terrorist spin-machines differ so greatly? I have spent so much time in the Middle East that I got a simi permanent cough from the sand and heat . I've had food poisoning in at least 5 counties over there. I never liked it. It was never fun. It was interesting. The worst by far was Saudi Arabia. Iraq was paradise in comparison (but still ****ty), I digress...

In all of these places I have been the people are just like they are here. They want the same things. A good job, a good family, enough to eat and drink. One thing that does make us different is their undenying belief in God and total devotion to him (this goes for Israel too). they pray all the time and use the word God in practically every sentence (God willing etc.).

I did not see too much crazys (OK I did in SA).

I think most people are the same no matter were they live or come from.

I agree with you, they want the SAME things, that's what I said. But don't mistake their devotion for STUPIDITY. Just because they are devoutly religious does not mean they do not want to have internet access, laptops, Ferraris and beer, because most WANT democracy and all it has to offer and realize that they can be responsible for their own actions and be able to live the right life in God's eyes amist all the BAD that comes with modernity. They do not need some Ayatollah/Assahollah supposed "religious" leader telling them how to live and then retiring to his palace with 5 or 10 concubines. My only point was they want the right to CHOOSE and that right has been denied them for many years. If you do not believe this is true then why do they flock here in droves? They avail themselves of all the GOOD that capitalism, modernity and westernization has to offer, and yet can still maintain the integrity of their culture and be as pious as they wish. But they still want to be FREE. Am I right or wrong? I am interested in your input since you lived there.

 

BTW Bob, see the thread regarding the Saudis sabotaging us, Bush and his reelection BECAUSE the royal family DOES NOT want democracy. Interested in your thoughts on that article.
