I will be in Vienna from April 23-30 (work conference). Any places to visit, rallies, museums, gearhead cafes? Ferrari club events, courses on local tracks?
Can offer the same info for a European visiting California (never a shortage of happenings here).

thx in advance, luke (European living in US for 20 years now !)

    Hi Luk,

sorry ,that there is sadly no response on your question here.
We are not unfriendly but the reason is, we have at present NO members from Austira / Vienna here aboard. I know so less about Vienna (its 450miles far away from me) and I can not help or advice you.
Maybe some of our Swiss friends wil jump on this thread and they might know a bit more from their neighbours?

Wonderful 250GTE you own and drive in sunny SoCal;)

Good luck and enjoy your European trip

    Danke;

I think I am set to go with the boss wine tasting, but anything car related would actually be better. Perhaps I can talk him into renting a 156 Alfa. We do not have these in the US, and I am quite fond of them.

i live very close to vienna and concerning to cars it's not worth visiting. there are hardly any dealers of exotic cars, and if you take a look at the salesroom of ferrari denzel you have to be satisfied if you see two or three ferraris. then they are very arrogant and more than overpaid.

instead of the cars, try to visit cafes in vienna, like "sacher". i mean it's expensive, but actually it's a must, if you're in vienna. pass the "kärntner straße" or visit viennas prater.

you'll see a lot of porsches and bmws and mercedes, but less ferraris. places to see ferraris in austria are the following: salzburg in summer, kitzbühel and a golfcourt outside vienna, it's called fontana (the owner is one of the richest men in austria). I was there one year ago and saw a blue 550, a red 512, a silver 456, a red 328 gts, a red 355, a white diablo and a lot of p-cars.

as a result of the low number of ferraris in austria, it is very funny to drive through vienna with a f-car, because everybody looks at you, if you would be the seventh world wonder. they take pictures of the car and are just stunning. My father once wanted to buy a 328 gtb in silver and we were driving round vienna and everyone looked at the car. we parked in front of the sacher and opened the motorcap to see the engine and everyone was stunning because of the f-car. it was a very nice day.

if you want to know something else write it down!

    Hi, Sepp

I am from Vienna but now live in St. Gallen, Switzerland. I still remember when I wrote my first letter to Denzel in the early 80ies requesting Ferrari catalogues - I was about 12. They actually sent me catalogues of 308-400-512-328-TR-412-348-355 over the years. Well, they do not seem to have a very good customer data management...
I remember a silver 328 GTB, what a beautiful car. Saw it in the city for some years. There were also F40s and even a green Daytona. Got them all on photos.
Here in Switzerland there are about ten times as many Ferraris and I happen to drive by Garage Leirer every morning. They have cars from the Stieger collection on show at their open days: 250 GTO, Enzo etc.
But Vienna in spring is heaven - even without a high quantity of Ferraris...

This is more of a logistical question, but I am not sure where to search. My phone is not compatible with the European GSM system, so I thought it is maybe possible to rent one at the Vienna airport, perhaps with a prepaid card. Hopefully, something like this is not uncommon in major European cities(I will not be renting a car, I do not think).

    Luke,

no problem to rent a pre-payed mobil at the airport!!!!
Think about to buy your next mobil a TRI BAND !!!
It works all around the world!
If you cant get it at the airport just go downtown in the city and there are many shops to rent a mobil!!!

Feel free to ask for any more questions you wan to know more about, you are always very welcome.
