Drove through the Pike Place Market, and this youngish looking street punk (tattered clothes and backpack) walks up and says "nice FAKE Ferrari!" I smile, then he says it out loud again for all to hear "Fake Ferrari", as he continues to walk past the car and sees the back he says "FAKE,...maybe....oh" then saunters off.....:)

I felt like yelling back, "thanks EXPERT!", but kept it to myself. :)

    Dave,

That happened to me one time too.

I overheard a guy about my age, tell his kid who was standing next to him, that my rosso rubino 308QV was a "fake." I was parking the car for display in a local car show. He said something to the effect that it couldn't be a real Ferrari because it wasn't "red"! I just pretended that I didn't hear him and they kept on walking.

The exact opposite happened to me when Dan Ramos and I went for a beer in downtown Snohomish last fall.... two middle aged couples were checking out my '94 348 spider as we were returning to the car. One Expert commented to the other, "that's a $200,000 car"....

A couple of years ago at Crater Lake: As I'm approaching my parked car, several people have gathered around it. One of the 'experts' said, "It's not real." I walked up, opened the door, and as I got in, I said, "The car may not be real, but the repair bills are!"

I am still waiting for a chance to admit that, "Yes it's fake but I put a Ferrari engine in it to make it more realistic".

Relative to Dave H's original comment - I always told my kids as they were growing up that the total amount of family knowledge and wisdom is CONSTANT. So as the kids grow into their teen years, the parents have to get dummer so the kids can get so smart. The kids go through maximum smart at about age 15 at the same time the parents go through maximum dumb. Then the process reverses itself but much more slowly until they're back to even when the kids are mid twenties or so.

I went to Greenlake for my 12 mile jog Sunday with my Tr, and got back to the car and someone spit on the drivers window! I just smiled and took my water bottle out and cleaned it off..the reason I smiled is there was no key marks, or anything else that would be worse!! I just don't get it, but on well...

    Rob,
That has happened on two occaisions in my previous 308! Both times I was in the car. One at a stop light, another I was parked and a group of revellers (new years eve) walked by and one hawked a lugy on my windshield. Not sure what is up with that attitude. Like you, I am a pretty non-threating person. :)

Not surprised about Greenlake since all sorts of people hang around there. I've heard worse Greenlake stories that didn't involve F-cars.

Robert - Driving your TR to greenlake and parking it there - Is like driving a stake in the heart of Seattle Ultra Liberalism. Greenlake/Revenna is the capitol of "Naderland" - Preferrably NO CARS allowed! And if you have to have one, it has to get 100 miles to the gallon - or be a Prius or a VW microbus of some ilk. I'm amazed it wasn't keyed - but it is the peace crowd and they usually draw the line between spitting on police officers and doing actionable damage against the capitalist pigs. I'm afraid there is only one solution - NWRFCA needs a map of politically correct places not to park our cars.

I think I'll make up some fender shields that say "Hybrid Scuderia". Maybe that will help.

My nieghbor has been working on his 70's chevell for a few months now. I go over and chat and he was real nice as I love chevy's. As soon as I put my 308 in the garage he no longer wants anything to do with me. Why? I didn't change my car did. I think some people really have an ego problem not us!

I know Dave, it is a very different group of people there!!! I have been running that lake for a long time, but your right this is not the first time this has happen to me!! When I parked my 911 cab there, it was egged, and as you know, (having the cleanest F-car around!!) dried eggs and paint don't mix!!! So I guess what you all are saying, get a clue, and don't expose my baby to the environment that Greenlake offers!!
    Thanks..Robert :)

And all this time you have been trying to get me to drive down with you!

Don't know if I want to risk the "Old Yellow One" down there.

One good point though, the eggs would blend in with the paint.

    Dave,
I really consider the entire city of Seattle to be a "free fire zone" for a conservative/free market/consumer like myself. There really are no "safe" zones in Seattle. Consider the entire city filled with potential socialist "haters" out there. Funny how they are all about "acceptance" and "harmony", unless they don't like your looks, views or consumerism. :)

Maybe I ought to try and fool them with a "diversity rainbow" sticker in my rear window? I call that "urban camoflage". :)

Don't get me wrong, I have had many positive responses in Seattle, but ALL my negative ones were in Seattle....The most positive and most negative are at the Pike Place Market, which I frequent at least once per week from spring to summer to visit Brian Lopriore at Lopriore Brothers Pasta Bar.

Happened to me few years back when I had an 996 cab parked at Redmond Town Center. Gladly no key marks. Jealousy is a sign of incompetence. Therefore the G will park in Seattle, and my two babies stay in the "eastside", more educated and more open-minded people.
