SPECIAL TOOL,for spinner knock off?????

I dont think anyone actually uses the lead Hammer anymore for Spinner removal. Where can I get that breaker bar for the 3 ear spinner on my 84 512 Boxer.I seem to remember a brass collar and or a long breaker bar.

 

If memery serves, I think I got mine from an ad in Forza Mag.

Although the spinners might be different corvette supply places like Mid America, Corvette central, ecklers...etc have a tool for mid 60's corvette knock offs. I've got a 66 myself but I dont have the tool, I still use a lead hammer. Anyway, the tool is supposed to torque the spinners to the right Ft/#'s too. I don't know the direct link but try

By the way, does anyone know the proper torque figure for properly tightened spinner caps?

The torque is 325 ft lbs. I have a socket and extension bar purchased as a kit years ago from Stainless Steel Brake Co. Due to the length of the extension bar, I set my torque wrench to 178# and get the correct 325 at the nut. The socket is not coated as Mr. Kumor's is, so it's not as nice.

 

Make darn sure the splines are clean in the wheel and the hub. I have 2 customers that use this method and both cars had loose wheels. Any rust or old stiff grease will cause the wheel to bind and not seat fully. I still use the lead hammers as well, and have had to start recasting them to get soft enough ones that wont damage the knock off's.

Thanks Guys, Mike Kumor has contacted me, I will be purchasing this unit Pronto......Really NowDoes anyone really take a lead Hammer to a $100,000+ AUTOMOBILE, My hammer would have to be softer than Dolly Partons Boobs for me to Hit Them!!!!!

 

Got a buddy with an Aston Martin DB6, concours car who uses one.

Also a beautiful series 1 Jag XKE that gets the lead hammer treatment.

After all, they were DESIGNED for the hammer, weren't they? Or are Ferraris different than British cars? Besides the obvious horsepower, looks, etc.

 

I bought a "Thor" copper & leather combo hammer from a Brit car mailorder place. I used it recently and it worked quite well - I just padded the wheel and struck moderately hard blows with the copper hammer until the knockoff loosened and then switched to the leather. No damage. The guy who reconditioned my Borrani wires did a good job cleaning the axle shafts and wheels and lubricating them properly with anti seize so the wheel came off & went on easily. Mechanic here showed me how to use the anti seize goo when replacing wheels and I put that on as well.

The knockoff wrench is neat and I've been reading positive reviews - I plan to purchase one but shot control arm bushings have next priority.

 

Absolutely! A proper lead hammer will not put one scratch on a KO
