This Dino has come up on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=2468075264

However a few things look out of place, gold wheels, chrome bumper extention, painted shields and painted roof panel. Has anyone taken a closer look at this yet, or know the car.

The wheels, sheilds and roof can all be brought back to original, and since the tool kit and docs seem to be there the car seems to be in relatively good shape. Would be nice to add a V6 to the V8. The only thing other than the bumperette (sp) is the color....not sure I could live with a white DINO. Other than that i am just looking to see if anyone know more about this particular car.

    Regards,
    JP

That bumper override bar was common due to the small size of the car against US contemporaries, look at pics of the Bonham's Gstaad auction, you'll see 'em on a 275GTB.

I think the shields are just stickers, and the car has avoided the "Horse badges" dealer updates when these cars tanked in the market.

It is the first time I've ever seen the "Basket Mags" in any color but silver, but a refinish there could make 'em any color you want. They were painted in bright colors (yellow, blue) on the 206 series factory race cars.

This looks like a clean one! Decide on the color and jump in the action!
I'll guess it goes to the mid $60Ks, at least.

    Why's that?
I'd like any pointers on how to tell it was rolled.

PPI and check for rust everywhere.
Could be a great car. Don't let the white stop you from missing out.

Denny can put you in touch with a Dino expert in the LA area. Nice guy.

There is a red 72 246 GT in Dallas at the moment that will be going to auction in the next couple of weeks. It's in great shape, and has ~25k miles.

It's hard to tell from photos but it looks like the mileage could be true. If you are a seller, the biggest problem with the car is the color. If you're a buyer and don't care and are going to use the car I think the color could save you $10K.

It's an old wive's tale that rolled back speedos show it by misaligned numbers.

Ferrari speedos are such a P.O.S. that the numbers don't line up ANYWAY!

On older cars like this, you either take it at face value, document the mileage off previous Bill of sales, or go by other confirming indicators such as interior wear or engine bay condition. The trunk carpets and such on this one indicate a clean example.

Speedo tampering is a crimal offense, and accusations of it should NOT be thrown around lightly, IMO...

    By Newbies....... LOL!

    ....with blank Profiles.

You can buy a new Ferrari speedo for $500, and make it say anything you want! Why bother with a rollback, IMO?

To get a higher price! (knucklehead)

    Further,
What does being a "Newbie" have to do with any thing?
In regards to posting an observation or question?
The subject has come up before, and many on this board
have acknowledged that it can happen, and likely does in
some cases. I merely pointed out what I've learned from
    THIS board.

I guess since I have less post's than you do I must be
    unworthy of an observation?

Btw, so that YOU'RE happy, I've updated my profile.
    ( Look, but don't touch!!!)

    No offense intended!

Ferraris speedos fail so often they rarely need tampering, that's all.
If you buy your car off that kind of dealer, you're asking for it, IMO

I use a calendar for my oil change intervals! ;)
FWIW, The World's Fastest Art Car is NOT for sale. Ever!
    There won't be anything left!

Jimpo1, after the secretary locks me out of the coffee room, I have to sneak back to the warehouse and kick the vending machine for a Mountain Dew!

It's great to work at a hospital, they can restart my heart anytime I need to!

    Ken,

They're both my daughters (now 19/17), and my son, 13.
Unfortunately, it's a rental from our trip to Las Vegas in
August 02. The most fulfilling $1K I've every spent!
I plan to have my own next Spring…

Good looking kids! I've got a crop about the same ages!
My girl has named the Art Car "The Money Pit" LOL!

Again, meant no offense about the odo, but these older cars, five digit VINs, exempt from carfax, etc. COULD have been tampered with, but most times are not worth the risk involved.

Again, best to use "Rule of thumb" indicators and previous owner history.

I just called on a 308GTB glass, and the car lot said..."missing books, no service records... just tool rolls. The other owner I looked at was FCA member, owned the car twelve years, same shop, was upfront with damage and repaint.

What color do you think I would go with?

This ebay ad appears to be a private seller, not a business.
I'd say investigate and go for it!

    Alan,

    Red/Tan, or Red/Black, for my first F-Car.
Titanium/Black is very intoxicating though! (on ALL models)
We'll see when the time comes?

    PS;
The temp. in Vegas was 110+ the day we rented it,
and the a/c was disconnected b/c of stop and go traffic.
It was Red/Black and we sweated our arse's off!!!!
Miserable Hot, but didn't care, I was in Heaven…..

Black is the best choice for wear and appearance IMO. Mine's yellow /black.

110 degrees, huh? But it's a DRY heat. A jump in the pool would seem in order.
Winters GONE here in Houston, but no one'***** the pool yet (except my kids testing the new surfing wetsuits after Christmas)

I think several Fchatters have posted about using that car!

Silver is a good choice to highlight the lines of the car, but I've had trouble with paint fade on silver metallic. (Non F cars) New paints seem to hold up better than before though.

    Yellow/Black is Beautiful! Also, Yellow/Black w/yellow piping and/
or yellow inserts are awesome combos. One of Ferrari's best IMHO!
