Met a 360 on the freeway, I was with a passenger on 280 windows down. His car is clearly F1, not 6sp. Anyways, the car didn't have a chance, the 550 ate it up on freeway speeds. So much so that I didn't even bother changing down from 6th at 90 running to ~150. We went on for miles, and going down to 4th/5th meant I was backing off a lot as we caught up or went past. Point is, this car couldn't keep up, and I had no trouble catching it. The guy seemed competent enough (it's a freeway), and I was thinking woah, Art's 355 was a lot harder to close in on. So that begs the question (of course, one example fo a 355 and one of a 360 isn't fair comparison), on the freeway, is the 355 faster than a 360? --Dan
Think about that question. How many 360 owners do you think are going to say a 355 is faster on the highway?
Depends on how honest they are. My impressions are based solely on my experiences with the two as compared to my car. So I'm curious to see what others have seen. I'm not saying one is inferior to the other, or anything of the sort. 360 owners will no doubt criticize the older car, and 355 owners will make comments about the numbness of the 360, blah blah blah. What I'm wondering is if there's any consistency to my observations. --Dan
I assume you're asking with tongue firmly in cheek, Dan. While there is certainly room for discussion and differing opinions on which one looks nicer, no one would seriously argue that, in stock form, a 355 is faster than a 360 in any speed range. Either this 360 was sick, or the driver was timid. Gary
"For the sake of the children put the crack pipe down!" I borrowed this phrase from Mr. Doody but it's all I can come up at the moment. Come on guys, you can't be serious! I love the 355. But there ain't no comparison in performance subjectively or objectively.
Another thing to keep in mind...not all of us have your facility for dealing with triple-digit citations, so the foot gets a little light as the vision of air patrol slides through our brain cells. Gary
Well, lets not go crazy with the 360 being that much faster than the 355.It is surely quicker, but not that much.
Well it wins the uglier challange hands down. The 355 Spyder in Black/Tan Yellow/Black is probably one of the most remarkable cars I have ever seen! Kyle
having owned both cars, the 360 is noticably faster in all speed ranges and handles much better with quicker steering and better feel and better aerodynamics and a lighter stiff body....other than that there performance is identical!!!! hey, i saw a toyata corolla pass a diablo vt tonight on the hightway..i quess ill start a tread whether the corolla is faster than the lambo....
Let me get this straight: At 90 mph, a F550 stayed in 6th gear, was smoking a F360 F1(I'd assume it went all out) to 150mph? I do not believe it. I would think my 996TT is about as fast as your F550 if not faster, and I would think F360 is faster than my E46 M3 for sure. I can tell you, if the 996TT dropped the hammer in 6th at 90mph, when the M3 downshifted to 3rd and hammered it, the 996TT will NOT whoop the M3 to 150. A race is only a race, if both drivers know they are racing. I don't think the F360 was running you.
Easy boys... Passenger saw the guy's hands stay on the wheel as he shifted. Assumption is F1. As for the speed in 6th, I dunno what to say. We were doing 4-5-6 before, and it wasn't close, so the next time I stuck in 6th and was still ahead. I was surprised too/ BTW, I qualified the statement with the fact that this is an isolated event. I've had a hard time catching Art's 355 once we're moving... but this guy was definetly hauling ass no question. --Dan
Well first off the Porsche in 6th gear, will get destroyed. Thats not the same as a 550, as the 550 will have alot more torque, while the turbo will take forever to spool up in 6th at 90mph. I can add alittle insight to this matter as ive raced my 355, with all the mods in place against my Diablo in a similar situation. On the highway, about 80mph in 3rd in the 355, the Diablo could pull away while being in 5th. The Diablo had exhaust and air filters, the 355 headers, bypass pipes, exhaust and air boxes.
My 355 has headers, bypass pipes, tubi air boxes and the ECU upgrade. I feel like the ECU made the biggest difference. You must get the ECU done Allen.
I haven't dynod the car but I am telling you it feels much faster. Made the biggest difference as far as I am concerned. Then again I don't have a hp. king Diablo. To me it was worted. The air boxes who from on your 355.
