The same weekend as the Bahrain race (2 weeks) F1 Decade will be showing the 1994 Imola race. I am interested in seeing how much camera time, if any, will be given to the Senna crash. They are probably going to edit it all out, although maybe not since Senna was in the top 3, with MS right behind him, when the crash occurred.

Was watching with my father at the time. Knew it was "curtains" from the impact and no movement. Had seen him get right out at hockenheim after hitting barrier very fast once and throw steering wheel at the car. Saw all of senna's races from tolman candy days till end and have many on tape. That was the end of an era in many ways.

Yes, part of the front wheel suspension is the "unofficial" cause, a lot of controversy. During the trial a lot of people had a lot to loose, few had little to gain. I believe he would of survived the crash, if it wasnt for that piece that made him brain dead. His lung and heart worked aided by machine after the crash. Senna was my idol, a true racer.

I just watched the on-board camera of his crash. Sure looked like his head slumped over well before impact, right about the time Schumie said Senna's car was bottoming out.

    Tragic...

There is data compiled from his car, from the start of the race right up untill the car hit the wall. He corrected the slide twice and was full on the brakes for a brief moment before impact. He was very much alive and hard at work before contact with the barrier. A sad day, a shocking day, a day I won't forget.

As for the broken steering column, it was broken because of the crash, it was not the cause of the crash. The pace car came out for 5 laps or so and cooled the tires, then they went back to full race trim in no time. In a flat out corner with bumps... the car did bottom out and that started the next few seconds of effort.

I just came to check out this board as I am reading a great book about Senna called "The Life of Senna" which I ordered through grandprix legends. At least Ayrton died in the lead of the race starting from Pole Position. What is also tragic is that a great year of Senna vs. Schumacher was missed.

also, on speedvision, speedtv, speedchannel, whatever it is called - on April 4th, the F1 Decades will be the 1994 San Marino GP. I was going to post and see if anyone planned on watching it? I remember watching it live and then the replay that very night on May 1st, 1994. =/

He was a brilliant man. I'm sure he would be either the owner of a successful team, or a very important figure somewhere in motorsport. And/or still racing possibly in LeManns or something of that nature. Who knows, but I am sure he would do it right.

I think I read somewhere that Senna wanted to drive for Ferrari. Imagine a Senna/Ferrari team. Ferrari would probably would have won the WC earlier and imagine the advances they could have made with Senna developing the F1 and road cars. How about a Senna-developed F355?

Senna did say in a couple of interviews that he wanted to drive for Ferrari one day as he recognised that it was ecery drivers ambition. I wonder if he would have been as good for the team as Schumacher or would he have played the political game too much and exacerbated the divisions already present in the team?
