Our garage isn't wide enough for a 355/360/512tr. Is there anywhere else we could store the car during the week? I have to come up with a solution or my dad will just get another porsche...

The obvious answer is a lock up garage near to where you live. I would'nt feel comfortable if it was too far away and insurance might be an issue.

Insurance couldn't be worse than if it was just left outside though?

I've got a feeling you need to alarm a garage if it's not part of the house where you store your car. Don't even think about buying a F car and parking it on the street.....

Take out the living room windows and put in an up and over door. You could sit in it while watching tv.

It wouldn't be out on the street. We live in a cul-de-sac-type-thingy and we are third house in off the road(very quiet area) Donty know if that would help...

Might sound like a daft question but I traded up to a 355 from a Boxster and worried about the car fitting but the size isn't much different (355 is larger but not a great deal) - if your garage takes a porsche it should take a 355 - not sure about dimensions for the 360.

Yes. When the 996 C4(narrowbody) goes in with the wingmirrors out there is about an inch to spare. Getting in is the only problem, sorry, I should have made this clear.Maybe we could get a new doorframe which gives an extra few inches? A 360 is just less than an inch wider than a 355.

Yep - thats a narrow door!

You might try a roller door - they have a frame thats about half an inch wide each side! They normally are electric which is always nice to have!

Thanks, I'll look into it. I'll measure the width properly tomorrow too. The wingmirrors on a 355 fold in right?

    yes they do.

I thought my garage door was narrow at 80 inches (the 355 with mirrors out is around 76 inches - I think).

our 996 is 69 inches wide and you can see how little space there is :( But we will see. If not...we can always buy the nexdoor neighbours double garage ;)

    If this helps , 355 dimensions are;
    length-167.3 inches
    width- 74.8
    height-46.1

The wing mirrors do fold in on a 355, but you have to be careful. The rear of the car is a lot wider than the front, but the wing mirrors are the widest part. So if the mirrors are in the normal position and they go through a gap, then you know the whole car will go through.

However, if you sequeeze the car through a gap with the mirrors pulled in, then it is possible that the back end won't go through, so you have to use your mirrors to look at the rear arches to check clearance. Hang on a minute though, you just pulled them in to get it through a gap....

So best policy with a 355 is mirrors out all the time. This is probably the same for other models too.

    Richard.

To give you some idea of clearance, here are some pics of my car as it enters the garage door, plus one showing the door opening. I have the same width door - 83".

In the pics, the left side mirror is slightly in front of the door frame and the perspective in the picture is making the gap between mirror and frame look slightly narrower than it actually is. The right hand mirror is lined up exactly with the door frame.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has this problem.Losing abit of weight helps getting in/out of the car.
