Ok - To start - I was messing around with my car today after getting it back from it's service... I saw a sensor in the front bumper, and then under the dash - the on/off and volume control - thus I have a K40 Radar System - which must have been put in by the previous owner and I didn't even know it!(don't ask - I bought the car a few months ago - and haven't done anything with it - cause I wanted to get the service done first).

Any way - I downloaded the user and tech manual - and I am guessing it is a k40 - 1000 unit. It has 2 Led's (Left is Highway/City - Green and Amber) the Right is the warning Led.

So I have read through all the previous post and the user manuals, etc - very excited about my toy I didn't even know I had.

*** So here is the question. When I turn it on - it goes through it's start up beeps, etc. Once that is done - it beeps about every 7 seconds or so (it does not stop beeping - had it on for about 20 minutes)... The red warning light on the right is not on when it beeps. Why is it making the beep noise (It is a short beep if that helps). I first thought I might have the laser deflector option and thought it may be beeping on regular intervals - indicating it is active - however I do not know if I have any options with this - or even what year it was put in... ****

    Any suggestions ?

I have a K40 in mine and it does not beep unless it is sensing a signal. Sounds like something might be wrong. I don't have the laser option as it takes a significant amount of work to install it on a 355 without a front license plate. You might want to take it to a dealer that sells the K40 to take a look at what you have.

By the way, mine saved me today. I was cruising around 90 on the highway when it went off. I braked, moved one lane to the right, and let an H2 get by me. Next thing I know, the rear sensor goes off and shortly thereafter a cop passes me from behind. He chased down the H2 and pulled him over. I never saw the cop at all until he passed me. I have no idea where he was hiding.

I had an old Passport that started a slow, rythmic beep. It was the first clue that the thing was shot.

Rich, I have several of these gizmos so I think i know what you are talking about. You are getting a methodical ping tone at equal intervals. this usually happens because either the front or rear connector has come loose or broken off. You need to find the detector, and remove the plug in connector. Ensure it is clean, replace it and lock with the twist lock collar. If it has been broken you wll need to get a replacement and splice it inot the circuit. A job best done by one who is familiar with this type of wiring.

One quick check before the search, cycle the main switch on and off a few times to be sure that it is not something in the main control.

I actually pinged the K40 tech support - and word for word - they said exactly what you did :) I will give that a try this weekend - and if not or I need to do more work than that - I will be taking it to an install center.

    Thanks for the great advice!

If you need a K-40 part, I've got a unit laying around my garage somewhere, I removed from my 308. It's about 3 or 4 years old. It has front and rear, nice internal head, lazer unit integrated. Let me know if you want it, I can part with it cheap.

Have any of you tried the laser blockers/sramblers?

Laser blockers work and are legal, but are $$$ (Escort is said to be the best). Could be well worth their entry fee depending on your driving habits.
