Sorry and all but... Would not spend even a single DIME to see VH nowadays. Perhaps i value their personaities and the way they have treated people over the music? The "Sam and Dave" show rocked! Eddie and the like... no thanks.
VH has been DEAD for years!!!!!! Let's support the REAL rockers. "Are you ready for the new sensation Well here's a shot heard round the world All you backroom boys salute When her flag unfolds Well, guess who's back in circulation Now I don't know what you might have heard But what I need right now's The original good time girl She's a vision form coast to coast (Coast to coast) Sea to shining sea (Sea to shining sea) Hey, sister you're the perfect host (Make a toast) Show me your bright lights And your city lights, all right I'm talkin' about the Yankee Rose (Bright lights) And your city lights, all right I'm talkin' about it..."
Although he single-handedly tossed the guitar industry into a new realm and has great taste, Eddies tapping got old - he needed to reinvent himself. Unfortunately, that reinvention came in the form of Steve Vai + Yngwie scared te **** out of him with his technical abilities.
I cant belive they're not doing a show in Miami, Losers Guess I'll catch them in DC. I like the old days better too but since Ive never been to a VH concert I might as well catch whatever I can get. What happened to that singer they hired after they fired Sammy ? Was that Steven Vai ? Did they ever do any music with him ? I heard they had this new singer to replace Sammy then they just sort of fizzled out
Even though Jump really blew, 1984 still produced some great VH tunes (Panama, Hot for Teacher, etc). Dave's departure is what really killed the band.
Ya and they even made an album with that guy, it obviously went no where. He was the singer in that group Extreme before VH. Now who knows what and no one cares.
It's actually kind of sad they're still around. They'll be up there rockin' with their beer bellies bouncing away. And I can just imagine the mullet-haired crowd.
Damn, I didn't think it would happen. I guess they're broke. I only got to see VH with DLR, the third show in Dallas,TX 1984. That was the last tour that Dave performed. Never was much a Hagar fan, the music changed too much for me, to many keyboard songs. I didn't think it would last anyway. Lets see if the tour makes it or Sammy & Eddie try to kill each other. BTW, Did anyone hear Sammy on the HOWARD STERN SHOW friday? Very f*cking funny.
you guys are right about the age thing. But then again look at the rolling stones. Anywho I really could care less who is singing I juat want to hear some new music from Ed. And no they are far from broke. Ed, has a contract with peavey and a couple of patent's for guitar stuff. They are also making big with royalties etc. These guys are far from needing money.
I know the purists like Roth over Hagar, but they really are like two separate bands to me. After listening to all of their albums (6 discs with each singer), I can honestly say that I like both equally in different ways. Roth was the perfect front man for what VH initially was, a bad-boy, sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll band. I think of them in their adolescence during this period. However, most people change over time and it seems to me that VH outgrew Dave, or perhaps Roth thought he was bigger than the band and left, or both. If anyone has listened to Roth's solo stuff, most of it sucks. Hagar was much more of a musician and allowed VH the flexibiltiy to explore different types of songs. That they went from bad boys to the writers of theme songs of high school dances still doesn't ruin it for me personally. Some of their songs with Hagar are at least equal to the best with Roth, IMO. When Balance came out around '95, I must have been in a Roth phase because I thought it sucked. A year or so later I pulled it out again and listened again and enjoyed it much more and still do. As far as Charone goes, VHIII is probably the worst album they have ever done. He is a good singer, but not a good fit with VH. If I am not mistaken, Van Halen's manager is/was Alex Van Halen's brother-in-law, and he also managed Extreme. That is how they hooked up. If anyone has ever seen the Freddy Mercury benefit concert from '91, Charone was absolutely fantastic doing some of the Queen songs, IMO. After Hagar, I always thought someone like David Coverdale would have made a good front man.
FYI, Pre-sale tickets are available on AOL (Keyword: VAN HALEN PRESALE) at 4 today if anyone is thinking about going...
Well gang - my ears are still ringing. Let me tell you - you would never believe that Sammy Hagar is 54 years old. Or that Eddie has had hip replacement surgey; cancer; etc. These guys were smoking' last night in Buffalo!!!! They were having a great time. I was in the pit next to the Eddie side of the stage. Ended up with a guitar pick and high fives from the band throughout the night. If you get the chance this is the best concert money you will spend this year. I will post the set-list if anyone cares. KS
Great stuff!! I'm looking forward to the TO dates. I've heard the new song on the radio "about time" it's ok i guess, but how are the others? Like Up for breakfast and the other one? Did Ed di his solo thing or just straight jamming with the band..how was his playing? Like I said I really could care less about the singers I just want the guitar work.
