Okay so the other day I'm driving home from work. I'm behind this big rig semi truck. I notice how clean the back of it is. They are usually filthy dirty. I change lanes to pass, and the rest of the truck is well kept. Then, I see the stupidest thing I have ever seen on a semi. It had freekin SPINNERS on it. YES!!!!! You read that correctly. Semi Truck Spinners. I could not believe, my eye. The only wheels that didn't have the spinners on them were the front ones. That is just soooooooo getto.

Ernie, noticed on ya profile that you did the Gracie style jiu jitsu. One of my fellow combat instructors, a guy named rick young flys over to Brazil every year to train with the Gracie Brothers. And one of our Gurus is based in Calafornia, he is Dan Inasanto do you train with him as well? I know they are frends of his.

I train under Rickson. His school is in Santa Monica.

Nope don't train with Dan, but I have met some guys who have. I think he mostly does the Kali and Kempo stuff. Not my cup of tea. The Kali is kinda cool though. If I was to get into the stick fighting, the Dog Brothers are more my style.

Regarding spinners,I think what happens on the street influences every day styles,eg look at wheel size, its only becourse guys on the street put on over sized wheels that this was adopted by the car manufacturers, and thats why we have 19in and 20in wheels standard on some super cars. Look at NOS gas this was very specialised only 10 years back but the street/getto boys fitted it, and now look how big it is, the new MG supercar has the choice of NOS from the factory.I remember when 501 crisp fit jeans were cool, and we used to take the p**s out of guys who wore over sized and ill fitting jeans, have you seen the new 501s? whos in style now? ICE installs used to be specilised and many people were happy with crappy car radios but not now, the average person now wants a first class ICE system, again influenced by whats happening on the streets.Lets say that it was the trend on the street to have 13in wheels and a dareing car manufacturer put on 19s, if the street style does not want it, not even people who could afford Ferraris would buy them becourse they would be ridiculed on the streets.I dont personaly like spinners on all cars but some look good, my point is street style dictates, and we should not be suprised if a manufacturer fits spinners standard on a few cars.If style wants it Who knows.

True - follow street trends quick enough = dictate formulaic terms, price and "style" = stock price climb.
Per rides - The best influence of streeters has been higher stock performance, rather than having to do bolt-on customizations. But spinners... on one hand, man, they're tacky - on the other, I'm actually surprised they haven't been outlawed.
Scenario: Someone approaching an intersection sees "spinning" wheels on a car at the cross and brakes (knee-jerk reaction)... gets rear-ended... who is officially at fault?

The Miss Budweiser hydroplane racing team once had (simulated) wire wheels on one of their "big rig" support trucks!

there is kinda of a subculture of truck drivers who go all custom, to date most of it has focused on lights, some drivers have been known o spend thousands on running and nighttime lights, in some instances they have been fined because the lights prove distracting to other drivers. There was an article in the WSJ on this a few months back

I saw chrome wheels on a septic truck last summer. They didn't help.

The trailer was mostly polished stainless. The trim and the cab were a teal greenish color. The truck overall was very nice, but I just thought the spinners were lame.

Can someone tell me when the thing that the tire is mounted on changed from a wheel to a rim? If you under 30-35 yo it is a rim. If you're older it is a wheel.
Was there a law passed that changed the name and I missed it?
