Took the car out for a short spin today. I wanted to warm up the engine so I could check the oil. Well I wasnt even pushing the car because the engine was cold, just poodling along. Next thing I know i've got blue flashing lights behind me.

I got out the car quite peed off because I was sure I had not done anything wrong. Its hardly a crime to drive a Ferrari now is it!?!

Anyway turns out that I had managed to hit 60 in a 30 zone. I wasnt even trying! I apologied and said I had no idea i had reached that speed. Coppa believed me luckily and told me to take it easy. Also told me the red colour stuck out like a sore thumb and to get a Nissan Micra to avoid speeding again.

    Lucky really.

    Yeah cheers andrew!

It seems to be a bad habit I have. I remember when I bought my M5. Two weeks into ownership I got caught speeding in Amsterdam. Paid a fine. Two weeks after that I got caught speeding in Luxembourg. Car got impounded and fine was bigger!

    LOL, what a story!

Glad to hear you got let off the hook!

I heard one story where a guy bought a M5 new back in 2000/2001 and had it destroyed within three days, somewhere in Surrey.

I got chased by an unmark police car that I thought was a dodgy Joe Public following me home. Eventually I pulled over and got one hell of a boll0cking but no points or fine.

I got out the car quite peed off!

Why do people get peed off when they get stopped by the police and think they've done nothing wrong? You don't have to do anything wrong to get stopped, they can stop you anyway. Perhaps they were mad about cars and stopped you just to admire your car..... or perhaps it was because you were doing twice the speed limit! Sounds to me like it was your lucky day because you'd lose your licence for that!

I've stopped quite a few cars and told the owners the only reason I'd stopped them was to admire their motors, for some reason they then want to show me every little thing. I suppose it's better than a ticket!!

Don't want to tempt fate but in 7 yrs ownership I've never been pulled over. I complete contrast, when I use to own a supped up Sierra Cosworth my "record" was 17 stops (resulting in one SP30 ticket) in one month !!!

I overtook an unmarked Vectra on the M40 the other day, just north of Oxford. Thought nothing of it, until the lights came on and started flashing. Looked at the speedo and immediately slowed from 115 - 80mph, Vectra pulled along side, the copper wagged his finger and booted off. Sometimes I live a charmed life...

I used to have a very modified Mk1 Ford Escort Mexico. It was very quick, and when driven it had a sound not unlike downtown Baghdad last year. Needless to say this car acted as a red rag to a bull (or should that be BILL!).

I was pulled over one easter on Friday, Satuday, Sunday and Monday. The first time I was pulled over because he said I looked like someone. I said yeah, Jerry bloody Adams (I had long hair, beard and glasses) and he gave a producer for my cheek. The Monday it was hovering around zero degrees and it was sleeting, and on a dark lane I picked up a panda behind me. He pulled me over for driving "suspiciously" slow! I pointed out that it was freezing cold, puring with rain, pitch dark and I had a police car behind me; how did he think I should drive. Another producer! Smeghead!

So four stops in one weekend, and two producers. S'funny, but my sister was splitting up with her boyfriend at the time, and what did he do for a living? Yep, a copper!

Me neither. We've just got back from an easter egg run where we take loads of eggs around to special needs units and hospices in the S Wales area. We had my T, a Volvo V70R, Impreza STi, Citroen Xantia WRX replica,Volvo XC T6, Street ka!! and about 10 fat bikes.

We didn't break (m)any speed limits either!! Hee hee!

have you thought of the possibility that he was just 'estimating' (and exagerating) your speed just to give himself an excuse to surmon you and that he could not really have been able to fine you?

I am not sure how he could have accurately measured your speed in a 30 zone without a proper (fixed) radar/laser installation . I have only heard/seen mobile radars work on motorways and even then only over some distance so as to have a good average measurment.

I respect the law, but I was under the distinct impression that the police had to have a reason to stop you?

If I was late for an important business appointment, or a flight, but was sticking to the speed limit and other laws and a policeman/woman stopped me for no reason and just noted that they liked the car, I'd be mighty pissed off and would be sure to take their number and put in a formal complaint.

A uniform is not license to stop people as and when you want. Reasonable suspicion yes, a chin wag no.

Apologies if this is sounding a bit high and mighty, and the vast majority of times I'd love to chew the fat with the police about the car. But it's abuses of power that cause people to disrespect the police, no matter how nice your intentions are.

While you're here, why do we never see people pulled over for dangerous driving (e.g. tailgating or not leaving enough space during manoeuvres generally)?

    Regards
    Andy

PS A week after buying my 355 two female officers pulled me over in North London after following me for about 2 miles. They gave me the biggest load of bull**** about why they stopped me (thought the tax was out on the car!), held me up for 15 minutes and let me on my way when absolutely everything was in order. Fortunately I was only off out for a dinner party so noting too heavy to do my nut about. But it was blatantly obvious that all they wanted to do was pull a Ferrari.

I love watching the TT races that show up here on the speed channel. I want to see it in person and visit your Isle. It looks so nice on the race coverage, so green, nice villages, and billiard table smooth roads. Could you tell me when the TT is held and a nice place to stay? Is there a man airport with flights from london?

Great stories, you guys get a pass more often than here.

makes my blood boil.Got pulled on saturday afternoon.Nothing wrong, speed limits observed. The tubi makes the car sound like its going fast, even when you're not.THE most patronising, small minded, nobody in a uniform pulled me.He even called me 'son'.I got stopped for no reason.I have no problem with the police, but some of them have to really get an attitude check. At the end of the day,he had his little power trip and I left with no endorsements. But you dont go through life letting people take liberties like that with you, even if they are serving police officers.

I picked up my first set of points last month - minding my own business doing 80-85 along the A120. Long straight road. No traffic. Got pulled by an unmarked Volvo.

They said they were out specifically looking for people using mobiles whilst driving but when they saw me they couldn't resist... that comment didn't go down well. Tossers...

But that said, there was the "oh my god, they'll never let me drive for the rest of my life" incident when I got stopped doing an insane speed on my motorbike - again, let off. So I can't be bitter.
