    Greetings,

Some of us have discussed the disadvantages of running the Fcars in autoX. For those who do this often, is the 1st gen MR2 competitive? I might have a lead on a very-cheap 1986 NA that I could probably have some fun with and learn, then dump later. I also can get ahold of a 240Z that needs some serious cleanup, if that's a better choice.

    Thanks
    T

The best judge of what cars are competitive in AX is to check the national results...

    http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/nationals/2003/results/index.html

Stock cars have the least mods of course, with only shocks and throw on a set of R rated tires.

Street Prepared has many other mods, but still a drivable car off the course.

The Prepared and Modified cars aren't even street legal for the most part.

240Z might make more sense to restore if it's reasonably solid.

Hmmm. They're both in E Stock up against the Miata. Once again, probably uncompetive.

I might grab the Z anyway, it would be a blast to drive on those skinny tires. Retro, like a Dino....

I've seen more second gens MR2 at autox, not many 1st gens that I know of. The best person to speak to about MR2's would be Damon (PROVA7).

    Some other cars to consider.

    1st gen Mazda RX7
    1991 Honda Civic Hatchback
    1990 Nissan 240SX

That's an option if you want to do SRX7 someday. Last I knew the SRX7 was part of CSP, although not really that competitive. You could AX the Rx7 while building it into a SRX7. I'm glad I spent 18 months AX'ing before going club racing.

The Rx7 might make sense. I'll have to think about it for a bit. Thanks for the feedback.
