I think they did have those wire wheels... look, the 166 next to the main one has the same wheels, as does the berlinetta in the background

I always thought that genuine wire wheels were painted NOT chromed. All Alfa Romeo wire wheels are always painted ...

But I could be wrong ;) ... but they really look wrong for the period IMO.

here's another chromed wire wheel pic

I don't know the answer as to whether they came from the factory like that, but I feel like I have seen quite a few...

I´m quite confident the Barchetta in the picture is 0006M, one of the first of the Barchetta bodies, built in 1949. As Gilles, I could not find pictures of 0024M either.

I don't think it is 0006M, the windshields are different.
0024M is the famous Egg or Uovo.
But which one it is ............ I do not know. Anybody!

    OK,
I think now that the car is 0006M before restoring in 90's. The windshield has been changed to look like it was in 1949. You can find pictures of the restoration somewhere in the web (can't remember the link)
So I don't have any picture of 0024M.
However, I found on the net a pic of 0022M. It seems that it has a chromed decoration on the air intake (on the hood)

    Thanks for your replies

The restoration of #0006M was done by Paul Russell and can be seen on his website. Do you have pics of #0052M or #0046M?

    No Boudewijn,

no recent pictures of 0052M, 0046M and now, 0024M !
Only the old ones that you must have.

    Joop,

the Uovo body is fitted on 0024MB. Nothing to do with 0024M

    Ciao

I am glad somebody is on the ball. My mistake. But to be exact, I think the number is 024MB (as per Hillary Raab and John Starkey/....).

I think some of the road cars had chrome Borrani wires. This is a road car as evidenced by the leather around the lip of the body where the interior meets the body.
Barchettas that were made for the track did not have the leather/deluxe interior to save weight (but that didn't stop some customers from racing their street cars)

However the race versions had unplated wire rims. The chrome plating process would weaken the spokes and they would crack under any serious pressure you would encounter during racing.

I've not seen the car on pics of MM '03. Maybe I'll have to look better at pics of this years MM.
