I think that this car is 0024M in late 90's. Does anybody know if I'm right ?? Any others pictures of 0024M ?? I'm also looking of pictures of 0022M and 0046M. Thank in advance !! Aardy Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think they did have those wire wheels... look, the 166 next to the main one has the same wheels, as does the berlinetta in the background
I always thought that genuine wire wheels were painted NOT chromed. All Alfa Romeo wire wheels are always painted ... But I could be wrong ... but they really look wrong for the period IMO. Pete
here's another chromed wire wheel pic I don't know the answer as to whether they came from the factory like that, but I feel like I have seen quite a few...
I´m quite confident the Barchetta in the picture is 0006M, one of the first of the Barchetta bodies, built in 1949. As Gilles, I could not find pictures of 0024M either.
I don't think it is 0006M, the windshields are different. 0024M is the famous Egg or Uovo. But which one it is ............ I do not know. Anybody! Joop
OK, I think now that the car is 0006M before restoring in 90's. The windshield has been changed to look like it was in 1949. You can find pictures of the restoration somewhere in the web (can't remember the link) So I don't have any picture of 0024M. However, I found on the net a pic of 0022M. It seems that it has a chromed decoration on the air intake (on the hood) Thanks for your replies Aardy Image Unavailable, Please Login
The restoration of #0006M was done by Paul Russell and can be seen on his website. Do you have pics of #0052M or #0046M?
No Boudewijn, no recent pictures of 0052M, 0046M and now, 0024M ! Only the old ones that you must have. Joop, the Uovo body is fitted on 0024MB. Nothing to do with 0024M Ciao
[QUOTE Joop, the Uovo body is fitted on 0024MB. Nothing to do with 0024M Ciao[/QUOTE] I am glad somebody is on the ball. My mistake. But to be exact, I think the number is 024MB (as per Hillary Raab and John Starkey/....). Joop
I know it's a Rookie question but. what year/model is this nice car and what other things can anyone tell me about this interesting model.
The 166 was one of the first Feraris made, after the 125S. Technical specs: Engine: 60° V12, front longitudinal, light alloy cylinder block and head Bore & Stroke: 60 x 58.8 mm Unitary and Total Displacement: 166,25/1,995 cc Compression Ratio: 10:1 Max. Power Output: 140 bhp at 6,600 rpm Timing Gear: 2 valves per cylinder, single overhead camshaft per cylinder bank Fuel Feed: 3 Weber 32 DFC carburettors Ignition: Single plug, coil ignition Transmission: Dry, single-plate clutch, 5-speed gearbox + reverse, conventional differential Chassis: Elliptical-section steel tubes Front Suspension: Independent with transverse leaf spring and hydraulic dampers Rear Suspension: Live axle, semi-elliptic longitudinal leaf springs, hydraulic dampers and anti-roll bar Brakes: hydraulic drums Steering: Worm and sector Wheelbase and Front/ Rear Track: 2,200 / 1,250/ 1,200 mm Dry Weight: 650 Kg Tyres: 5.50-15 Fuel Tank: 90 litres 0 to 60 is supposedly around 10 seconds. They were produced starting in 1948, and there were many different body styles, including open and closed variations.
I think some of the road cars had chrome Borrani wires. This is a road car as evidenced by the leather around the lip of the body where the interior meets the body. Barchettas that were made for the track did not have the leather/deluxe interior to save weight (but that didn't stop some customers from racing their street cars) However the race versions had unplated wire rims. The chrome plating process would weaken the spokes and they would crack under any serious pressure you would encounter during racing. Ed Island Collectibles, Inc www.islandcollectibles.net
It is 0006M. Chrome wire wheels and leather upholstery are clearly visible on next 2 pics. Joop van der Meer
I found some superb fotos of 166 MM Barchetta at Fotki.com http://images4.fotki.com/v41/free/8e06c/5/53649/430324/MyPictures0105-or.jpg http://images4.fotki.com/v42/free/8e06c/5/53649/430324/MyPictures0163-or.jpg (and see more fotos around: http://public.fotki.com/VRM/ferrari-1/166/) Is this s/n 0006M or what? And what s/n of red barchetta with (Dutch?) LP "PN-12-81"?
What's the s/n of the the following car? http://public.fotki.com/VRM/ferrari-1/ferrari_to_be_sorted/my_pictures0366.html
Thanks Wayne. I thought I never saw an headrest like that earlier. I've not seen the car on pics of MM '03. Maybe I'll have to look better at pics of this years MM. BR
