Ferrari doesn't do prototypes quite like other manufacturers do.
But I'm curious what some of you Ferrari historians would rate
as the top 10 coolest Ferrari prototypes.

Fueling this question is this Forbes article that
gives their opinion of the top 10 prototypes in history.
No Ferraris among them... though there is a Bertone design.
Any Ferraris that should be there?

One would have to include the Modulo - particularly in the context of it's time.

The Chaparral, McLarren, & Shadow of the Can-Am years, when there was mega horsepower & a scary wing, have more distinction than modern prototypes. GTP, that is. BTW I did have a date or two w/ a guy driving some silver gull winged thing when I was in collage. Gave me a Rolex for graduation.

If they own Ghia, you think they could design more attractive original cars...

I think that the original Porsche Boxster concept from 1993 was pretty awesome.

The P5 (and to a lesser degree the P6) have a sytle grace and elegance that TROUNCES any recent cars, both production and prototype made by a certain design house that starts with P...

I find it amazing all the little details that made it into production eventually off some of these cars...the scoop from the P6 on the 308, the front light treatment on the boxers, some of the louvers onto the Mondial/TR. Even the split from the Modulo made it. Continuity of concept/design. It is lacking of late.
The 550 has Lusso roof features, 4-cam fender features, a nod to Daytonas in the tail, and a smile. Great lines, way to subtle for most.

Lee, the 360 was the last car for me that I liked. The 575 and the 550b do not count...same car as a 550 really.

    yes I agree.

For me the beginning of the end came with the rossa concept, and the enzo and the 612 that followed. The cars just didnt work as well as in the past. Thought the rossa worked much better then either of the other 2...

Agree Omar, although the Rosso is stunning in the flesh. Rear is non-descript, but front is strong, lights creative. I like the 12's, 575 really lost the delicate nature of the 550, too blunt of a nose. 360 really needs challenge grille in front, I have wondered whether a small alloy band arounnd openings would evoke P/LM's. That, or silvergrey light surrounds under glass?

I still like the 408 4WD prototypes. Look past the similarities to the NSX and you'll see it's a pretty cool design. Was very aerodynamically efficient too. Many neat technologies went into it, would've made a good rally car.

I think that the Mythos concept was pretty painful to look at and it far preceded even the Rossa.

the only reason I like the Mythos is because it was the design the lead the the design of the F512m wheels, and those are my favorite wheels.

I would like to add the Pinin prototype, shown at the 1980 Turin Auto Show.

I'ts a pity that Enzo himself vetoed a 4-door Ferrari, because it would have

easily outclassed Rollses, Cadillacs, Lincolns, etc.

Joop, I was going to post that too. A V12 and a big trunk, 2 things the QP needs and doesn't have. For the time, it was an amazing car, beautiful 4-door. Surprised the Sultan didn't have one.
