Gosh Bruce, you just eliminated .47.5% of all site activity! Whataya trying to do, starve Rob and the wife???? LOL! I hear ya, brother. I cleaned the gf's garage, and her ex took all the tools when he left, but I found five years's supply of Meguire's. I thanked him this AM, as he picked up her kid for school.
Damn you Bruce, as much as I hate all the senseless polls on FerrariChat, The One pole I wanted to conduct, shot down in flames! THANK YOU! Now about floor-mats...
The only thing I don't understand..... he drives a rusted Ford F150 missing a tailgate. What was he using the wax ON??????!! Oh well.
Bruce: Never use Dawn or any other related product (Joy, etc). Dishwasher soaps will strip the wax right off your car. Use a product like Zymol's Clear Auto Bath instead. The PH is neutral and it will not remove the wax on your car. You are better using a buck of water than Dawn or Joy. In fact, the manual to the Rolls specifically states that only plain water is to be used when washing the car. Ken
Bruce - I'm with you ! (1) Dawn wash (2) Griots clay bar with misted water for a lubricant (not speed shine) (3) Griots soap rewash (4) Zymol and/or Griot's Best in Show and/or Meguires Deep Crystal (don't laugh... it works for me) Speed Shine is terrific in metallic finishes and lighter colors -- but I'm still struggling to find it's utility with Rosso Nero. Seems very hard to control the streaking. The best thing about Zymol is the smell. It reminds me of spring break in Florida. For the tires? A light coat of Meguires Endurance (smells like grape juice) is an outstanding choice for long-lasting non-ghetto shine. For the glass? That's an art, not a science. The product doesn't matter nearly as much as the application. Foams seem to work quite well, but at the end of the day, newspaper still rules. -Daniel
Ken - that's exactly the result we're seeking. Strip the wax with Dawn, then clay to really remove all embedded contaminents. Then polish, wax, and cruise away! -Daniel
I AGREE WITH DAN, BUT STILL LOVE YA KEN DAN...I SMELLED SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHEN TALKING ABOUT "SPRING BREAK IN MY HAYDAYS IN FLORIDA..........
After the car is prepared properly -- wax removed, washed, polish, wax -- what do you do after a day of spirited driving and you get, for example, water and dirt/dust on the car? Wash with water using ? Any information very much appreciated.
Funny you should ask... my Sunday afternoon (after ripping through about 90 miles of hard driving) went like this: 1. bucket of Griot's car wash -- nice & bubbly! 2. Lambswool mitt the car. Good soap will leave the wax untouched. 3. Use whatever soap is left in the bucket and a dedicated wheel brush (I love the Griots foam brushes http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?SKUupsell=15220) to clean the wheels. 4. Chamois dry as much as possible; microfiber the little bits that remain. No wax, polish or anything more is necessary. Cover her up put her away, and start planning your next romp through the countryside.
OK, one more thing, and I apologize for these basic questions. Do you rinse the car first before applying the bucket of water with the Giriots soap? And, secondly, don't you rinse the wash mit every time you apply it to the car so that you don't mix the dirt on the mit with the clean bucket of water? Again, thank you, I'm obviously new to this.
HECK YES! Rise the car well before touching it with anything ! I don't use a "double bucket" system... just a hose and one soapy bucket. I'll swish the lambswool inside the bucket each time I dunk it, but that's about it. One more thing.... don't soap the -entire- car at once. The soap would dry on the surface before you can finish the whole thing (a bad thing!) Soap about 30%, the lightly mist it (just to keep it wet), then do the next portion, mist again, etc. The point is just to keep the soap from drying on the car before you've started the rinsing process. Atheyg - For me, the jury is still out regarding SpeedShine on a Rosso Nero car. -Daniel
After trying everything on earth, including the $1400 Zymol (given as a gift) I keep going back to my favorite two. 1) Klasse 2) Autoglym Either one can be topped with pure carnauba, P21-s being my favorite. I keep telling Rob we need a "Wax and Mats" section... ps - see my profile pix...this combo has produced many trophy's..
Isn't Simple Green really bad for paint? I always thought it was, but the other day someone told me it wasn't that harsh... comments?
ive tried everything to! would never go back to a wax. if you actually use the car i find zymol bathe Zymol HD cleanse Zaino or klasse It may not look quite as good as a top wax job after first application but afte a week its better and it lasts 6 months and does not attract dirt into the paint
I agreed with this statement until last week. Try Stoner Invisible Glass -- this stuff is amazing. I also for the first time used a blue cloth made for window cleaning from Turtle Wax. This combination makes it very simple to clean glass -- takes about 10 minutes to do all windows and looks cleaner than I've ever seen them. The cleaner directions indicate that paper towels have absorbancy chemicals that impede the cleaning. Newspaper works well also, but the blue cloth is much easier to use.
Who are you trying to kid Bruce? We know this is how you do your car: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12812
