Track workers have covered the fine coral sand around the Sakhir circuit with a special glue to try and ensure the sand does not cause problems. But nevertheless there will be sand on the track, there's no doubt about that. This will not only limit the level of grip on the track but, in terms of the engine, the air filter will play a more crucial role as it will have to prevent sand from getting into the engine through the air inlets and causing damage. This is going to be a very spectacular race IMO Forza Ferrari !
Why don't they wrap the engine in thick plastic? There, problem solved. Now to move onto the next problem.
Very funny Seriously when ever we move to a new track it is very interesting, but IMO it will favour the big teams more. I say this because I imagine that they have more test data, etc. to refer to and have more expensive engineers and thus get a better setup earlier than the money strapped teams. On top of that the big teams may have better drivers that are able to help this process. I think the sand will cause lots of problems and maybe make passing difficult, ie. you do not want to get off line on to a sandy part of the track. Pete
This race will be very entertaining. I know Bahrain is the "Las Vegas of the Middle East" but will there be pitbabes there? This sand issue just ads more to the whole experience. Should be very interesting.
Yep, I think it's going to be a intresting race. Still... with a red Italian car crossing the finish line first... There will be pitbabes, but we'll only be able to see their eyes. The rest will most likely be hidden...
Hmm. Islamic country. Champaigne at the podium? And ...will Kimi crash DC's airplane into the Ilmor factory after the sand causes his third straight DNF? Stay tuned. Flem at 11.
Any champagne sprayed on the podium will be strictly non-alcoholic and there will be no scantily-clad 'Grid Girls'
i would love to see how the F1 cars handle the change in weather, with all the sand floating around, i'm sure the engine and aerodynamics are going to take a fair beating.
The latest weather forecast for this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix, predicts possible thunderstorms on the big day. On Friday there will be some cloud with temperatures reaching 30 degrees C, while on Saturday conditions should be ideal with temperatures creeping up to 33 degrees. However for the next couple of days isolated thunderstorms are predicted, though temperatures will remain high. Thunderstorms? Sand? Looks like we could be in for a good one.
sand will make it interesting. the glue holding it all down will not do much when someone goes off and tears it up. so expect the last 10 rentadrivers to flail, specifically sato and massa
Don"t know about the pit babes but Bahrain is a very tolerant country and alcohol is freely available,it is not "retarded" and one of the most friendly countries in the middle east.
To be honest I felt like saying that already for the Sepang GP. By gholly I wish the competitors will put some pressure on Ferrari. I hate to have another race where after the 2nd fuel stop Ross Brawn tells Michael to slow down and do parade laps. And the way it is going right now, only luck will make JPM competitive.
I have never been to an Arabian country so I'm only passing hear-say, but allegedly there are two worlds: What is going on in public and what is going on behind closed doors. Based on that I wouldn't exclude Bahrain that fast.
I don't know, but my guess is an hour earlier than the European races, so probably 7am EST on Sunday.
Cool, I was not able to stay up long enough to watch all of the Malaysian GP. I'm glad I can just roll over Sunday and tun the TV on!
