BMW M Roadster

Driven it, liked it a lot! Nice handling, nice shifting, typical BMW feel (read good) The only thing I had a hard time with was the interior room (and yes I know it's supposed to be a small roadster) At 6' with long legs the room was a little tight. Didn't they even drop the 330hp M3 motor in it towards the end? Now THAT would be one wicked ride

 

It had a modified version of the M3 3.2l with 315 hp. My friend had one and that car sure was mean off the line. Then I got a 2002 M3 coup but after a year decided I wanted a roadster but BMW disscontinued the M roadster when they came out with the Z4, I really liked BMW but felt the Z4 was ugly and under powered. So ordered a Maserati Spyder GT which I am picking up this week. Am hoping in a couple years when I am looking for something different that BMW will have some sort of new M roadster

 

I have a 2002 Z3 3.0L that has very similar performance to the first generation 240hp M-Roadster-- great car, the only problem is a slight leak due to the sealing between the windown and the roof- otherwise flawless.

 

I test drove one(240hp 1st gen), and I was very pleased. With the exception of that when I was driving spiritedly against a new STi, I went to shift from 3rd to 4th(at the top of 3rd, maybe 85mph or so), when all of a sudden, the fricking shiftknob came off in my hand, in the process, throwing the car into 2nd gear! Needless to say, the STi guy stopped racing, and just stared as my Tach climbed for the sky at 85mph in 2nd. lol, outside of that, they're good cars. I'm seriously looking at buying either an M Roadster or an S2000 very soon. I like the idea of the M, but the S2000 offers the same, if not better performance/reliability ata cheaper price. Hmm, any thoughts?

You should be able to get a used M-Roadster for approxometly the same price- the M has nice interior (every aspect), and signficantly better performance (especially if you go for the 315hp version). No question for me, BMW.

 

Depends where you live and who you are around. Some women won't even notice you in a Ferrari. SOme people like us who know cars, love the M Bmws, with the deep dish rims, quad exhaust and hunkered down fenders.

My friend has a Dakar Yellow M coupe. Gets noticed, because of the different shape.

But realistically, MOST people will think the M Roadster is just another Z3. If you live in Los Angeles or San Francisco, anything short of an ENZO is unassuming.

Sick lil car, looks like a grocery getter since its got the hatch back going on but its pretty fast.

Drove it into a parking lot. Used to work at a Casino Vallet parking service heheh.

I get more attention (sometimes negative, especially from police) in my Dakar Yellow II 3.0L then in the black NSX I borrowed from a friend as well as a silver SL500 Silver Arrow Mercedes which are both over double the price... Check my profile for a picture of it...

 

Well, I'm looking to spend about $15,000 on one or the other. I know I can pick up a clean S2000 for that, but the cheapest M roadsters I can find are right around $18-19,000. These all have relatively high mileage(50-60K). I'm also assuming the S2000 is more reliable, better on gas, and not to mention insurance rates. I haven't tried checking the dealer auctions for M roadsters, although I doubt if it will be much better. The M is more my style though. If you know of any, let me know.

REally??!!! That is just a bit hard to believe. I do not doubt you at all. Can you throw me some #s, as to what years are available for that money, and the kind of mileage?

One of my friends wants to get on by July, and I will forward him the info so he can buy it in FL and drive it back.

 

Actually, I did a few laps at the track in one two weeks ago. It's a great little car. Power oversteer when you want it but good handling and lots of fun. Unfortunately, the only colour that I ever see for sale is Estoril Blue. Not my favourite.

 

I have rented one for a week in SF (the 315 hp version). When you're tall (6'2" in my case) you have a lot of wind over the windshield. The engine is wonderful and the car is extremely tossable. However, I would prefer the M Coupe. It's sort of ugly, but it has also real character. I was going to buy an M Coupe for my time in Europe, but ended up with an Elise.
