If you are making a business decision between two equally viable alternatives, yes, it would be pointless to belabour the point. But the more critical the consequences, the more carefully you have to make the decision. In that case, it is absolutely vital to have the right information, and to make the right decision based upon capable analysis. Humility is always good, but secondary to being right about decisions of life and death. Civilized society values life above all else.

Society works by consensus. That's why it's important to persuade people through reasoned arguments and get agreement on a course of action. When deceit is used, and discovered, the consensus falls apart. It is typically used for ulterior motives like personal gain or fanatical belief systems. Society does not support it.

Bringing someone around to your viewpoint on one matter does not make that person a clone of you. Agreement on one matter at one time by a select few will not make the world a boring place. But if they are the key decision makers vested with authority (and thererfore, power) then it can have far-reaching consequences for themselves and for those who have bestowed them with authority.

No offense, Slim, but I think you are beginning to lose the plot a little.

Zack I hate to tell you but I was not in this disscussion until you said what you said to Ross. I just happend to be sitting on the sidelines up until that point. The fact is you are ranting, and you did get your panties in a wad over what I said. Get over yourself Zack! Most of what you said in that post is not fact at all, it is just your interpretation of the facts. Things definately are not as simple as you see them. I am not trying to avoid this conversation, I have already been involved in a previous one on this subject and have grown tired of all the partisan BULL**** I've been hearing about it. The fact is your view is slanted by your hatred of the Republicans or George Bush or whatever. It does not even matter who you are aligned with. You seem to be angry period for what ever reason. The reason I said you seem to think things are cut and dried is the way you are presenting your case. It appears you see it quite black and white. The contents of your post is a clear indication of that. Chill out Zack, life is too short to spend it being angry all the time!

Ok Slim, it seems we have reached a concensous once again. I can certainly accept what your saying. We just differ on what the purpose of these disscusions are. I appologise if I have offended you as well. I think we are more alike than we realize. I too am quite sure there is more I don't know than do know. It took me 44 years to figure that out, but I have made that realization over the years. I do enjoy the exchanges so I look forward future corespondance.

Something's fact because you say so? Hardly.
And who says I see things in a simple light? Perhaps you should get over yourself.
Fine, but don't think you can take potshots and make unsubstantiated claims and get away with it.
Now who is stating opinion as fact? You don't know me, you don't know if I hate Bush or the Republican party or whether I am angry or not. You are merely opining that I am, but you are stating it as fact. Laughable hypocrisy on your part.
There is a difference of opinion on some matters, yes.
Does that mean I see things in black and white? No.
Did I ask you to engage in a debate about it? No.
Did you do it of your own volition? Yes.
Did you substantiate your viewpoint with facts? No.
    Did I? Yes.
Did I take cheap shots? No.
    Did you? Yes.
Am I the one trying to get out of this after taking one last parting shot? No.
    You? Yes.
Thanks for the advice, unsolicited as it was. Why do I get the feeling that's always the case with your pearls of wisdom?

Well ok Zack I'll give you that. I suppose it's not a fact that you were ranting and I suppose its not a fact that you got your panties in a wad but it sure sounded like it to me! Your post did however try to put things into very black and white terms so I think it was safe to assume you had a rather narrow view of it all. Also, the tone of it was obviously an attack of some sort so it was equally safe to assume you dislike Bush & the Republicans. Maybe I have misjudged you Zack! Naaaaaa! BTW, I could care less about imparting any wisdom on anybody and I never claimed to have any. I really am fascinated though with how your mind works, all this yes this and no that and did I do this did you do that. It has been quite entertaining to say the least!
