355 battery charging procedure

I charge my F355 battery (when needed) from the poles in the engine bay switch on.

 

Everyone charges from the bay....no problem.

 

Keeping the batterie loaded via the cigare lighter seams to be the easiest solution. Especially it after removing 5 screw you still need to remove the wheel.

Zhark, tell me it's a joke! I'm a bit concern by removing the batterie since it should already be 6 years old!!!!!!!

So far, I have keept my batterie loaded by connecting the external "power" to the cabine lighter plug. That's easy and quite efficient ... so far.

You're right ze_shark. The cigarette lighter fuse will probably not afford the current of a full battery (re)load. But for keeping the batterie at full load during long storage, the cigarette lighter plug is fine.

I unfortunately don't remember the brand of the charger I use. But you should easily find some product on the Web.

Somewhat new owner of a 1999 355 F1. Where are the poles in the engine bay and what is the switch?

 

NM ... found them under the right/passenger side panel along the inside edge of the right rear fender.

 

I added an extra wire (+) to where the battery switch is
So I can charge the battery while disconnected (switch = off)
This way you cannot blow the alternator diodes

 

I ran my charging cable through the brake cooling duct.

Where's the battery switch you refer to?

 

NM - I found it ... also found that a previous owner has run a tender wire into the switch compartment ...

 

I'm having trouble visualising how you added a positive wire to the disconnect switch. One side of the switch goes to ground, the other side goes to the negative terminal of the battery.

 

I was able to thread a (Schumacher) battery tender wire through a hole in the bottom of the right front battery switch compartment. Image Unavailable, Please Login

 

Positive wire goes directly to the battery
I connect the charger to this + and the negative on the switch coming from the battery -
The above post is even a better solution if you have a charger with a connector, as e.g. CTEK

 

I use the Schumacher battery maintainer for all my cars and they seem to work fine ...
