I think Maserati will share a plateform with Audi since they also want a SUV ..

its going to be a mess as Lambo also wants a SUV and belongs to audi..

    One big italian salad...

Here we go :) I do hope Ferrari's attempts to revive Maserati work. I don't really have an opinion on what models they produce aside from making it a strong and respected marque.

Is it odd to anyone else that Ferrari and Porsche are trading stuff like this around. Seeing that as Jeremy Clarkson said. "the never ending thorn in Ferraris side, Porsche.." I thought they didnt get along that well.

    OH GOD!

What's this world coming to? Yah, Yah Maserati is the passenger brand for Ferrari, but with the sharing of Maserati engine with the upcoming 420 (replacement for the 360), this means this new SUV will share engine parts with the new Ferrari 420?

I guess in this new WalMart corporate world of globalization, companies have to produce anything and everything in their market segment to survive.

Do car companies really have to follow the Walmart philosophy of let's sell everything we can supply to the consumer. Can Porsche and Ferrari survive without building an SUV, I think so! I realize companies are in business to make money, but this is getting preposterous.

Remember when we had that huge thread / argument about why Ferrari can't / shouldn't make a "bargain basement" sports car. Something to compete with the Boxster, Z4, Audi, etc... Most purists jumped up saying it would dilute the brand-name, blah, blah, blah... But I would rather see a $50K sports car from Ferrari rather than have a $150K Maserati SUV!

Based on looks...I would opt for the Maserati Kubang over another "crossover" vehicle. It is handy for some stuff...but I have not driven one yet that makes me sell the minivan. Drove the Cayenne turbo, and liked it. Heavy but taught.

They were designed by Tom Tjaarda, who also did the Pantera, I believe. Built in Italy. Powered by a Ford V-8. No Ferrari affiliation.

One could debate that is exactly what happens now, except replace soccer mom with potential Ferrari owner ... after all the 612's are still selling ;).

Does it really matter what they produce?

    Pete's semi-serious

    1994:

Ferrari sales are in the toliet. 348s can be had of the showroom floor. No one wants the 512TR. Ferrari needs something to safe themselves or its byebye.

They didn't produce an SUV in order to increase sales. They made a fantastic car (I like the 348 BTW) which at the time was the fastest production car made.
