One of the "Top 10 Ferrari Events in the US" was the USGP. That makes me think that a lot more than just the F1 race must be going on that weekend.

Anybody care to elaborate about the Ferrari festivities and activities?
Is it worth driving up your Ferrari to the USGP?
Or is it just as good to fly in... 'cuz you're just watching the race??

I've gone the past two years and it's been one of my favorite weekends of the year. I guess it's kinda a guys weekend out in Vegas, but with Ferraris! I went with two guys last year and we all have F1, Ferrari, racing, beer, and girl watching in common. :)

Fly in Friday morning, watch practice, get a beer, browse all the memorbillia/art dealers, have lunch, watch afternoon practice, walk around track, have a beer, go out that night downtown for FCA show.

Saturday arrive to walk around, have lunch, have a beer, watch qualifying, watch support race, go to FerrariChat.com get together dinner.

Sunday arrive to watch race, after race have a beer and watch all the people rush out to catch their flight, go out that night.

    Monday morning fly home.

I know not everyone's favorite thing to do, but it's towards the top of my list. Very relaxing and great people watching!

I drove up last year to participate in the FCA events and watch the race. Central Indiana Chapter hosts some nice activities.

Friday afternoon is the "Grand Parade" of Ferraris for a few miles from the zoo to Monument Circle downtown, with motorcycle policemen providing an escort all the way. People seem to know it's coming, as the sidewalks were lined with camera-wielding people.

Upon arrival at Monument Circle, we parked ON the circle, viewed everyone's cars, then went up to the 10th (?) floor of the Columbia Club for cocktails and an FCA Italian buffet dinner. Met with various FCA members, some local with cars, some from quite a distance, again with cars, and others who had flown in. This made for a nice way to meet the people you see at the track the next few days.

Only downside last year was that it rained most of Friday, but that didn't stop the enthusiasts. In addition to the 308s and 328s, there was an F40, some Testarossas, a Daytona, a 550, and some others I don't recall. About 2 - 3 dozen Ferraris in the Grand Parade, and around 40 on Monument Circle.

I've already ordered my tickets for this year. If you're interested, check the information on the FCA web site (look for the link to the Central Indiana Chapter).

Hey Rob, I'm a little concerned. That's not nearly enough beer consumed (according to your itinerary) to sustain human life. I beg you to reconsider this year.

And FWIW, we have driven up the last 2 years (in the Bimmer :() and it wasn't that bad. Plus we stop in Lynchburg,Tn. to visit "Mecca" on the way home! :)

I refuse to admit how much beer I drink on Indy weekend. Especially not counting by ounces since they are 24 oz. Fosters. :) No driving, no Jennie, it's a good time!

Me too, I never drink as much beer as I do when I am at Indy, either for the 500 or the USGP. It's ok though, because I am a guest of Marlboro, and they can afford the beer.

.....and the food, and the hotel room, and the rental car, etc, etc, etc.....

Needless to say, a good time is had by all, especially when your team wins.

    ;-)

we could talk, though I am not sure how much I can do. I can get you more access at the 500 than at the USGP because Marlboro USA is not the sponsor at F1 races (unfortunatly).

If you are going to the 500 let me know, I can hook you up with some hospitality passes. etc.

Not sure about the F1 yet, we will play that one by ear.
