When a car has been repainted a different color, how does that affect value?

Is it different for vintage cars versus the newer one?

Depends on the quality of the work. To repaint a car a different color, you have to strip the car down to the body, inside and out. Engine out, etc. The cost to do this correctly normally just isn't worth it if you compare the cost to just selling your car and finding your "correct" color. If you go "on the cheap" and half-a** the job (as most color change repaints are done), then yes, your car is worth substantially less to the average buyer.

Now if you are wanting some off-the-wall color, then a re-paint is your only option. BUT, that WILL affect your value negatively, and signifcantly, too.
