What a bunch of BS. GB needs to be real firm. He should send the assistant under secretary of state to the Kingdom. He should meet his Saudi Royal counterpart. He should convey a message to the Crown Prince. The Crown Prince should get the "message" from GB; while inspecting his horse collection.
$1.77 a gallon,I think when that was the price in U.K. it was about 1974,you people should think yourself lucky it costs about $5 a gallon now.
opec is a cartel. difficult to deal with people like that. our 'allies' there did argue our side to postpone this decrease (q8, uae), but saudi's true colors are shining through. kerry's comments are the next dumbest thing said in that article. the only way he gets away with bs like that is that most of the people who listen to him are dumb enough to believe that crap.
That's because your SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT TAXES THE ***** OUT OF IT, genius! It is not OPEC's fault that the "brilliant" social engineers over there wanna tax you out of your car, now is it? Duh. Yeah, we are lucky we don't live in such a Socialist utopian worker's paradise as exist in $7/gallon petrol Europe...
You know M-man, you and I sometimes have different points of view on some subjects, but that reply is right on point! I travel through the UESR* on a regular basis and never cease to be amazed at just how similar to the old soviet economic system they have become. Yes, I'm old enough to remember travelling there (USSR), as well. *United European Socialist Rebublics
dave, although you are right, to be fair i think matkat probably knows full well why gasoline is so high here - much is made of it in the paper and by the automobile associations; but like all the other taxes layered onto the public, there is very little we/they can do about it. i too scoff a little at all the gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair going on in the usa over this rise in pump prices given how laughably cheap it seems to us poor sods over here. just imagine, you could elect kerry and soon be in the same boat !
That pic on the left is from the dorkathon, ain't it? I'm so glad to see you back in fightin' form...
Guys, I agree this is indeed BS and what scares me more is the fact that I don't think the Pres is doing or saying enough on the subject. With each passing day the dems are realizing they are sucking wind with the WMDs, Dick Clarke, etc. and I can hear the next mantra, ala 1992 with "no new taxes" Bush stated during 2000 election that he was going to bring about comprehensive energy policy initiatives that would help to alleviate the dependancy on OPEC and the Saudis in particular. Why has this not happened? Unfortunately the average voter is going to latch-on, I fear, to the innane arguments perpetrated by the dems like: the Pres COULD but WON'T release strategic oil reserves to ease prices,(idiotic on it's face, that IS NOT what strategic reserves are for you dumb asses!!) where's all the "great ideas" to come from all of Dick Chaney's so-called "secret" meetings with the energy suppliers? (well, maybe if you ass clowns didn't BLOCK every effort to pusue alternative fuels and drill in our own territories and ease restrictions on manufacturers we COULD alleviate some of our dependency on OPEC) The Pres is not being forceful enough in using his so-called "bully pulpit" to tell people how things are.
