I really need some help here (not kidding this time - no pressure washer problems). I need to find an unswitched and a switched (by ignition key) power source in the engine bay. I could use the starter for the 12V source but was hoping for something a little easier (well closer to the distributors). If any of you have hooked up an MSD in a 308, I would appriciate some input (if you have, I also need to know if you disconnected the ignition boxes completely). I put a meter to the ignition boxes - nothing 12V all the time. Thanks in advance.

One more thing - is there a ballast resistor at the ignition switch? Cant find it on the electrical print.

My 308 was fitted with MSD. They had to run a new hot wire from the fuse blocks.

I later trashed it all and went back to stock components.

We ran power from the starter to a relay. Relay then powers the coils. This way, the relay is only drawing de-minimus power when the ignition is off, (otherwise the coils are powered all the time).

I don't believe there is a switched source in the engine bay. You'd have to run one from the cabin.

If you are trying to run power to the coils/MSD, you'll want a very high quality connection. Why not go the route I did?

I believe the solid yellow wire(s) on the coils are switched 12V...and unfused.

    I posted the 1981 308 wiring diagrams on http://bingo.cdyn.com/ferrari/
(I forget if they are in the owners manual...)

when I wired in an electromotive ignition system, I used this wire to
power a relay that connected another wire directly from the battery to
the new coils. I ran the new power wire through the existing tube.

The switched source is the + 12v wire going into the coil resistor and the unswitched source is the battery wire going to the starter.
