I just had my first Ferrari delivered today! A 1986QV Mondial Coupe. It was unloaded off of the truck, I checked it out, and within half an hour I was in it and went to fill up with gas at the local station. Who do I see, but the guy who works on my boat. First words, " I can see I am not charging enough to some people!" I told him I was just on a test drive, and proved it by not knowing where the gas filler release was! So, is this what I am in for with Ferrari ownership. Just found it very humorous and ironic with the other thread of "reactions to your Ferrari". I just thought I would share.

    David, congratulations...! Please post pictures...

As far as your boat mechanic goes; he obviously doesn't know the current prices of Ferraris and would probably be surprised if you told him how much you paid...

Based on my experience, yes. My neighbors always ask me how the drug importation bidness is going...

Truth is that your most expensive Ferrari is the first one. If you buy right, take care of it, and drive it, you'll end up with enough equity for the second one, and so forth and so on.

I usually just explain that its cheaper than having children. That usually shuts them up pretty quickly.

Although I received my 328 on Monday, I haven't driven it yet because of insurance issues that were resolved yesterday. I'll be driving it a little later for the first time here in GA.

Since the car's finish is good, I can guarantee that strangers will think the car is much newer than 18 years old and cost much more than $35K. But that's fine with me. It may not be the latest or the greatest, but it's still a Ferrari!

My friends, however, are all eagerly awaiting the first time they will each see it. Like me (until now), none of them has ever known a Ferrari owner, and now that I am one, I expect to be giving lots of rides in the months ahead.

    Molto grazie, Enzo!

A Ferrari is probably one of the most status-ee things there is. What else is there that is as high a profile that most people will notice? So given that, you will get all kinds of comments, most good. You have to take it all in stride and I would suggest that you keep it out of site and conversation with the people you deal with that will drag you down.

Tell your damn boat mechanic that owning your car is cheaper than owning a ski boat! Comments like that really piss me off!

    Ski boat: $30K
    Insurance / Yr: $1K
    Maintenance / Yr: $2K
    Interest on the $30K: $5K
Five years of boating with friends that do not pitch in for gas, launch fees, beer Etc. while you are taking them out in your boat: $15K

    Five year boat ownership: $65K
    Five year Mondial ownership: $45K

Ya, your boat mechanic can bite me!

LMAO - You might be onto something there

I think some people just dont' think before making comments.
Truth is - most will be envious and don't have a clue as to the true cost of these cars.

My new challenge exhaust put an end to the stoplight conversations though.
You see peoples' mouths moving but can't really hear what the heck they're saying... :)

Lighten up guys! The guy is fixing boats for Christ's sakes - he had to say something!?!?! Whad did you expect?

If people have to make derogatory comments about your Ferrari that's there problem. If I get a bad vibe, I just don't talk about the F-car. Most people I know don't even know much about the F-car except the group of enthusiasts I socialize with.
I'm a publisher and work out of my home a lot so it doesn't really affect me at much at work. I find it amusing when people have to make assumptions of who or what I am because of owning an F car.

    No, it worse!
    Try this:
    32' offshore boat,
    7 years @ $785 a month.
    Pay off balance of $52K.
2 new engines and drives $15K
    Sold for $25K
    Total Hours on boat 250.

You do the math. It hurts too much!

    :)

I just tell them it cost less than their motorhome, boat, snowmobiles and suv and they usually raise an eyebrow with gears turning in their head, "Really? Maybe I could have one then". I tell them it's all about priorities.

Was always into boats and they are the true money pits. And living in New England gives you only about 3 real months to enjoy. Just going for a little outing in it was a project. Getting to the maraina lugging supplies down to boat, Need couple people to help you get boat back in dock, then the washing that follows every little outing. Got out of boats and into sport cars, Just go into garage fire up engine and go for ride.

You guys missed the most important benefit of boat ownership:

You never have to buy suntan lotion again!!!! A lifetime supply is always left under the back seat!

Towels, too. I never have to buy towels!

And bikini tops...... lotion, towels, and bikini tops........

whenever i see a Ferrari, i always give a thumbs up and ask him to rev it, some F drivers are super cocky but most are truly passionate about their cars

LOL, I once was told by a boat owner, "If you want to know how it feels to own a boat, take a bucket filled with money to the shore, dump it in and repeat procedure."

guys! I can't let all this whining about boat ownership stand!
Yeah, it's expensive to own a boat, yeah maintenance and upkeep
is definitely more than for a Ferrari, BUT only if you let 100$/hour
    mechanics work on it...

Also, the more you use it the more you enjoy it and the less
    you'll mind "feeding the boat".
There's not much that I enjoy more than
taking my boat out every weekend...
    Southern California marinas are
filled to the brim with boats sitting in their slips 99% of the time,
not being used, basically blocking other peole who would like
to use their boat more often.

Waiting lists for decent 50 ft slips in Southern California are
    now several years!
