No particular reason for posting this - other than I thought you'd like to see it.. In amongst the 355s and 360s at a local English Ferrari Owners Club meeting today was this little gem: 1966 275 GTB Long Nose Torque Tube. One of nine built in RHD. Ex Lord Brocket / red. Now back to its original Silver. Enjoy... John
Are you refering to Load Brocket (ie. d!ckhead ) destroying some of his cars. Then the answer is no ... I believe. He actually destroyed far more important cars in the Ferrari and Maserati world. I think the Ferrari was a 212, which is or has been restored !@!@!, but required a new body. There is a site on the internet of I think a Swiss Ferrari restorer who did the work. The other 2 cars where Maseratis and I am not sure what their outcome has been ... anybody know. The archives probably have all this information I guess ... Should have been castrated IMO! Pete
What happened? I noticed (I think) on the Victory by Design video, weren't several of the cars his? Did he crash some cars while racing?
Zach, you can find the whole "Lord Brocket" story here. Apparently, a biography will be hitting the shelves soon and a movie deal might be in the works. Sheesh.
Good Afternoon, and Welcome to the Annual Upperclass Twit of the Year Show, Featuring "Lord Brocket". (apologies to Monty Python)
Wow, what a fool. That "you never really own it, you are just a caretaker" stuff gets old, but it really is ture. Owning old cars, old art, and other cultural icons is a real responsibility.
Pete, you speak about a 212 : Could it be the 195 Inter Touring berlinetta s/n 0123S ?? Does anybody have a picture BEFORE the car was destroyed ?? What is the link of the site you refered to ?? Thanks !! Two others cars destroyed were 0138AM and 0421GT, both now rebuilt with new body.
Yep I was wrong, 195 is correct + found some more details. One of the cars was: 340 America Ghia Coupe chassis 0150 A. Details: That site has BEFORE pictures too. Very sad, very sad. Anybody know what happened to the Maser ? Pete
Hi Pete, there is a pic of 0150A but the text has nothing to do with the picture : the car destroyed was 0138AM, the only 340 America Vignale convertible heavily modified by Lord Brocket before being destroyed. Now, this car has a Vignale spyder bodywork made by DK Engineering in late 90's. 0150A is the 340 America Ghia coupé which was raced at 1952 Carrera Panamericana with Mc Afee. Fortunately, Lord Brocket never owned it !! I spoke about 0123S, a 195 Inter Touring berlinetta. I have never seen a picture of this car before or after the destruction. Does anybody have a picture ? Thanks !
Hi Pete, The Maserati tipo 61 was S/N 2456 and was rebuilt in the 90's by the first post-Brocket owner Bruce Vanyo of CA. The present owner is Jack Croul of New Port Beach and he participated with the car at the Monterey Historics in 2000. Pic of that event attached. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Tony, Yes, I was there with the Daytona (just to the right of the Boxer). That Boxer, by the way, was making its first appearance after a 6 year rebuild... Not a concours car by any means, but I think the chap had been doing it up himself in between his day job as a Ferrari mechanic ! Anyway, good to see what is becoming a seldom-seen car around these parts (ie England). The 365 GT4 2+2 was a bit rough - but again it was great to see the old girl. Re Lord Brocket : many years ago - c.1990 - the UK Ferrari Owners Club Annual Concours was held at his country estate (Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire), and his Lordship and ex-model wife were handing out the prizes at the end of the day. All very different to the humiliation & ignominy that was to follow...! I remember that my girlfriend (now wife) and I had to get there by bus as we didn't have a car. It will be nice this year - for the first time - to go in our own Ferrari... John
