I'm on the fence - while I think it might cut out a lot of the quibbling crap, a) I don't see many users actually getting on it due to time-zone differences, and b) permanent vs. lost content.

That said, I don't suppose it would hurt to have one, but why not just organize something else that's far better suited? You could even do some voice chatting (meet2talk, etc). IRC (EFnet is always good), even AIM/MSN and their ilk have specialized services that will be more effective and useful than some software integrated here.

I like the idea. I think I remember from the newsletter seeing that this website gets ~2000 unique member visits a day, so I would expect to see at least ten people at a time or so at any given time.

If it got popular, though, it would cut back on the number of posts that are made. And the good thing about the posts is that they are recorded for others to read and benefit from/ respond to.

All in all, though, I think FerrariCHAT needs to live up to its name.

It's a good idea because it would cause alot less clutter on here probally. All we would need to do really is make one on AIM and give it some weird name so no one else goes to it.

Chat rooms are good to help with a community feel. Also, if someone is in the middle of a job on their car and comes up with a problem, they could hop on the chat room and see if anyone there can help with a solution. This is but a few of the many benefits. Think of the difference as writing letters (this discussion board) versus using the telephone (chat room).

Thanks Tim! Most people who use chat feel that IRC is best. On benefit of IRC is also that the chat room can be "hidden" from the public eye unless they KNOW about the chat room. This will keep out those who are not DIRECTLY knowledgeable about the chat room's existence.

The problem I have with a chat room is that you generally cannot archive the info. One of the most valuable resources on this site is the archives. You have a problem with your car, someone figures out the answer, it is all recorded in the archives.

If someone solves your problem via IRC, the solution is not recorded. When someone else has the same problem, he will have to ask all over again.

Generally if there is a chatroom bot, a log will be kept by said computer of all thigns occurring, manage ops, etc.

Howdy,

A chat room would be great and it might be something that Rob might want to think about adding to the Silver/Rossa subscribed areas. A good way to attract serious FChatters and a nice perk at the same time. Just my two euros...

Cheers,
Travis
