New Moderators pulling threads.

Call me a prude, but can someone explain to me why links to porn etc are appropriate *anywhere* on FerrariChat?

I get approximately 200 junk emails a day and I would hazard a guess that 80% of them point to porn sites.

If you need access to this stuff, why not just use some of your junk mail to guide you to it? Better yet, set up a "PornChat" site pointing to your very favourite links.

allan is allan. Love him, hate him, complain about him, whatever, but, you're not going to change him, or his behavior. He enjoys this stuff.

Let it go, if no one reacts to his posts, he's just spitting into the wind.

He's not the only one here who offends, and he won't be the last one if we ban him, edit him, or whatever. There's no "making an example of him" that will affect others' behaviors.

All he does, when you react, is change your behavior to his.

 

i don't know any of you guys personally....but these are my thoughts...

i try to live life with some fun in it.everyone has a different idea of fun.i think this forum is a nice way to get some info,see some nice pics and read some humor.the banter between allan and nno doesn't bother me in the slightest.i usually laugh out loud reading it,because i know that they are just ripping each other with no real intent or harm meant(i hope..lol).i don't like everything so sterile and p.c..that is boring.i also don't like to put people on my ignore list as just about everyone has something useful to add to this place.

i will not say what/what shouldn't be moderated.it's not my job.

sfumato....personally....i think you need to ease up a bit.just from what i have seen here in this thread,i'm happy your not a mod.if you don't like allan's post,put him on your ignore list...and anyone else that quotes him.that way you can not be offended by anyone.if you don't like my reply,then please....put me on ignore as well.

1) a clear explanation why each post is edited, so we know when and why

2) the name of the moderator for each change, so we know the style of the moderator

3) "flame" threads locked and moved to an archive, rather than being deleted. Rob used to do this on the old board, and made a point that he only deleted a few posts in the entire history of Fchat.

4) Abide by the rules Rob posted. Allan's "Aliens, NWS" thread clearly met the requirements from Rob: No nudity, link, warning. Yet because Dan follows Allan around and complains about him, it got pulled. We still have no explanation nor has anyone fessed up about editing it. Frankly, I don't even know what was there, but getting to the content required going past two warnings so it's a users' own fault if they're offended.

5) The fact that mods can change our words without any evidence is frightening. Unless I go back and watch all my posts, how can I know that someone isn't twisting my words around?

6) Open the mod logs to public viewing.

7) When in doubt, don't moderate. Don't have knee-jerk reactions. Don't edit a person's post if someone with a known personal animosity is reporting it. In general, treat the users like adults, instead of 6 year olds needing protection from the big bad world.

8) Treat everyone based on what they do here. Wax said something like "do you know who X is?" on this thread. Why should it matter who X is? If they're being an idiot and throwing personal flames, they should either be warned just like anyone else, or ignored like everyone else. It's the preferential treatment that is the problem. Perhaps the treatment isn't preferential, but with hidden logs and no personal responsibility for editing by the mods, it sure feels that way.

It's the old story -- within the limits Rob sets, I support people's ability to say whatever they want.

It honestly doesn't matter who Sfumato is or what he does. Allan thinks it, writes it, and wouldn't surprise me a bit if he actually has pissed on another human being. To that end, if he said it, let alone, did it to to a bum when I was around, I'd tell him the same thing to his face. Loudly and adamantly. That is exactly what I do and (trust me) what Hawaiian boys do. Who knows, maybe one of Maui's locals will take offense someday, get on the Coconut Wireless with the cuz's... One note, I think that often times it is better to cut the stem of the flaming when it starts if possible rather then kill a good thread doing it. An example is the 408 thread.

 

Yes. Once again, within the limits set by Rob, people should be free to say what they wish. Others should be free to oppose it. All should be encouraged to set others to ignore if they can't live in peace. Most of all, moderators should stay out of the way unless the postings cross the limits set by Rob.

I vote for a new TOFAS section, I actually kind of miss the old one. It made for some good reading when I got bored. The only problem is, it would be full of Allan/Carbon posts!

Junk mail is mail shoved down your throat. You come to Fchat of your own volition. You click on topics of your own volition. You click on links of your own volition. Big difference.

Each forum has a certain flavour. Lots of people like the flavour of this board, and its off-topic section. Censorship will change that, and force the changes down our throats. We should be able to decide for ourselves. Part of the reason I like this board is because the owner, Rob, has the same opinion about this issue. If you want a no-porn/f-car praise only board, start your own. Why enforce your perspective on others here?

Allan may be a prick. Fine. There's lots of people who I don't agree with to various degrees. Those I hate intensely, I have put on my Ignore list. It works. Why is it that people who don't like him feel compelled to respond to him? And, when they can't match wits, they resort to hurling childish insults and demanding his ban. Read this thread from the beginning and look at Sfumato's posts (Wax, no offense, but it doesn't matter who Sfumato is-everyone here should be treated the same by the mods).

Just becuase one person doesnt like something doesnt mean others dont like it. This is a problem going on now in the real world of censorship. If one person doesnt like it somehow the masses that do lose what they enjoy. I think a lot of people remember the old fchat when there was no moderation.

 

I would also add that any moderator found to be deleting or modifying posts in a manner inconsistent with the guidelines should have his mod status yanked. And the wrongly deleted or modified post should be restored to its original state.
