Whenever my mouse arrow passes over anything that can be opened for a few seconds, it automatically opens it! This is making me crazy. Is this a virus of some sort?

least likely a virus. they are usually more creative than that. it's generally one of two things: bad mouse or a bad driver. try reseating the mouse itself - most likely it is a PS/2 mouse as opposed to a USB mouse. let me know if this helps, or you need a little further instruction - I still owe you one!

It's quite likely a mouse software setting. What type of mouse do you have?

If you are running XP, there is a Tweak UI utility that allows for the focus to be changed as the mouse passes over a window. I found this to be quite useful until I figured out you couldn't use the drop downs in Outlook because of it.

Have you also tried restarting? I remember when I used to run XP that would happen to me from time to time if I tried to do something while using the mouse buttons.
And if all else fails, get a trap, that usually solves my mouse problems.

    Peter,

Have you tried any spyware removers? You might want to try Ad-Aware. It could be some type of spyware on your pc.

restarting doesn't get rid of spyware, nor does it prohibit spyware from autoloading up when you restart. spyware is intrusive, but it isn't that creative yet.
