I have just destroyed one of the rear wheels on my 550. I hit a curb and the wheel got totally torn up. I have never seen a wheel rim "flake" like this one did. Looks terrible. Anyone have any ideas where I can get a replacement wheel?

    Thanks for the info....

Tears. Do you have any pictures of the wheel and how did you do it?

are you sure it can't be fixed?

maybe it was fixed once before and you whacked the fix?

i curbed my passenger front wheel within days of getting my 550. c'est la vie. but it didn't disintegrate or anything like that.

    doody.

    Doody,

Maybe you are right - maybe the wheel had been fixed before because I have never seen a wheel finish flake off like this one did. I will try to post pictures later in the day.

    Thanks...

if it will hold air and will balance it should be serviceable. i have had many many hard to find wheels powder coated to factory finish with excellent results. sorry about the misfortune!

agree with the carreaper- there are wheel specialists that can make most damaged wheels like new .(and for a lot less than a new wheel.)

I think if I can find someone to reapply the powder coat then it should be OK. It just really aggravates me!!! It sounds like you guys have some experience in this. Is there any national chain that you would recommend to do this sort of work? I greatly appreciate this sympathy (and information) in this time of emotional distress ;)

I*'m not sure if you should get it fixed. I'd rather just get a new rim because if you get if fixed and u bang the wheel again in the same spot....
the nightmare will continue once more!

Oh...by the way...this is what I heard from my Ferrari Dealership:

For my 360 Modena, they said that if I get one tire replaced on the rear wheel....both rear wheel tires must get replaced. They said that the wheels spin so fast that the car needs an even traction on both tires in the back. I would think this would apply to the 550 too.

    Hubert888,

Thanks for the info. This shouldn't be an issue. The tires are fine (and brand new with less than 200 miles). Presumably switching out a wheel/rim shouldn't affect the traction.

I had thought about switching out the rims at some stage anyway. Maybe I will use this as an excuse to do it now and then get the OEM rim repaired as a spare. I am thinking about maybe the CarGraphicUSA rims. Just don't know if I want to go to 19" and invest in another set of brand new tires. Options, options, options....

    Thanks.
