This is an XJ220 I have been inquiring about. it has upgraded clutch, brakes and turbos. Front clip is composite S bodywork. Horsepower is around 650. Includes new fuel bag, timing belts and engine upgrades. Asking $210,000 in Europe. Do you guys prefer the stock body or the S?

They are both stunning cars, personally i prefer the S, is the rear spoiler missing on this car, the most important upgrade on either should be the brakes as they are useless in standard form.

Just realize that the maintainance on these cars is way beyond typical 12cyl
F/L-Car maintainance. To replace the fuel cells/bags, the car has to be
taken apart. These have to be replaced every few years. In the USA
there is only one factory authorized parts distributor. There is no more
specific oil available for the gearbox. There is no shop manual for the car.
The head gasket costs 1,500. There are other problems associated with
the car. It is a great car though. Superb value on this hypercar.

I think it looks incredibly good other than the standard car's rims. It needs some nice big modular wheels or something a bit racier. Such a shame when those cars were introduced they didn't get the attention & backing they deserve.

I actually prefer the non-S, mostly because I don't like the wing. so, you could say this has the best of both worlds, (for me)

That was my thought too I like it without the rear wing.
Also, this car has had the fuel cell replaced, the clutch and brake upgrades done and engine seals, etc.
When you run these cars hard you need to let them cool some before stopping and then open the engine hatch. This will prolong valve cover gasket life, etc. by reducing heat soak ( supposedly).
The wheels are the worst part of the car, so change them.

if your talking about the XJ220, its a twin turbo six, not a 12.

Please look at the entire sentence. I am talking about comparing the XJ220
to F/L-Car 12 cyl maintainance. The XJ 220 is supposed to be far "more"
expensive to maintain. This may be one reason the car has lost so much
over the years? Also the car was a limited production special vehicle from
    a large historical marque.

The car should not have gone from a list of 545K in early 1990's money, to
locating cherry examples today in the bottom 200's.

If you are seriously thinking about buying this car..make sure you talk to a few owners first. I think (if iremember correctly) there was sombody on this site that owns one. I wish I could remember the fellows name.

I have not heard to much about these cars, but I have heard (whether its true or not) that service can get as high as 20k. And god forbid you have to get into the engine for somthing. I guess these cars would be like maintaining a Bugatti EB110. Very expensive because it's a very rare car. Do they even make parts for it anymore?

If your looking for a comparisson between F/L car repair costs, I would think that the XJ220 would make them look like economy cars.

Maybe you could speak to some mechanics that used to, or still do servie these cars, and get a mechanics perspective on the in's and out's of the car. Because most sales guys don't really know, or just won't tell you the horror stories.

Good luck and I hope all turns out well!!

    Tom
