Looks like an Aston to me, not sure of the model though.

What do we do when the person posting the photo identifies the car incorrectly?;) It's actually a 1930s Aston Matin Mark II. David Brown (DB) didn't acquire the company until 1947.:)

Lee, you've got me stumped. Photo appears to have been taken at Bonneville or El Mirage, but the car doesn't exactly look like it was ever intended for "land speed" use. Looks like it was built in the mid-to-late 1930s by an American manufacturer. Other than that, I have no idea!

Looks about the size of a Lotus Elan but clearly it is not, maybe its some sort of Fiat Barchetta with a diff. body? Definately looks like its from the 80's...

    a hint?

You are very nearly correct with one of you guesses. It's got both European and Japanese heritage.

Looks like a Lotus had one too many to drink and banged a Fiero. And, shazam, Fiertus!

    Wayne,

You are the king of automotive obscura !
It is indeed a Syrena, a Polish (East block) car. The power unit was based on a fire engine pump design. It made a horrible noise and smoked like mad. It is in the same league as the Trabant. Not the proudest moment in Polish history. Copernicus, Chopin, Maria Curie, the Pope, and Walesa are all better known...
    :)

Close enough it's actually the X100 that is sometimes mistakenly attributed as being the prototype for the first MR2. You're just too good at this Wayne ;)

You quoted me as I was editing my post to add the "X100!" I found the info and pics here.
