Hey everyone, first post here on Ferrarichat for me, so I thought I'd introduce myself and say hello!

My name is Brendan Prout, I'm a junior pastor at Canyon View Christian Fellowship, located in sunny San Diego. :) Longtime Ferrari aficionado-but-can't-affordo and lurker here on the boards (registered after the Coronado Classic Speed Festival last year but lost my password and never bothered to get a new one emailed to me til now).

I'm 30 years old, have been married for 4.5 years, and my wife and I just welcomed our first child into the world, a boy named Jay. He's 4 months old and already smiles when I say "ferrari". :)

My wife, bless her heart, supports me in my car addiction and has given me permission to get a trashed F-car if I come across one that I can afford (challenging on a pastor's salary). I've been on the hunt for a damaged 308 GTB, GTSi, or Qv for some time now... that seems to be the only way I'll have my dream car, is to get it damaged or outright wrecked, and spend some time rebuilding and restoring it... which is fine by me, I'm looking forward to a Ferrari 308 as a project. :) I have to admit, I've been a fan of the car since I saw Magnum PI as a youngster. And there seem to be plenty of fire damaged 308's around SoCal.

Currently my small fleet consists of a 73 Fiat Spider 1600S with 21k original miles (father was original owner), a Corrado RSR-G60 with 283k miles (my baby), a Corrado SLC-VR6 with 59k miles, and a 4x4 Pathfinder V6. Previously I've driven a couple of Alfa GTV6's, a couple Fiat spiders, a Porsche 944, an Austin Mini Cooper Radford S, and a few vehicles not worth mentioning.

Other interests: I am a musician -- my main instrument is guitar and I have a small harem, ahem I mean collection of them. I also play bass, keys, drums, violin, viola, and yes the banjo. I've been in bands for many years and have several CD's recorded, but most of my music time now is spent at church involved in leading the worship ministry there. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, scifi, fantasy, ComiCon type of nerd. I love Recaro seats, european cars in general, playing Halo on Xbox with a big group of friends, and hanging out with other car enthusiasts.

Anyways, that's about it for now. Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome. As a fiat and former alfa owner, you will be well prepared for ferrari ownership.

I'll throw in another option for you- the 308 GT4. Usually cheaper than the GTB/GTS cars (you should be able to get a good one for 25k) handles better, lighter, better visibility. Some don't care for its looks, and there is the whole Dino issue (it was originally marketed as a Dino and not a ferrari), which accounts for its low price. But a great starter ferrari/dino.

I agree with Slag, you should definately plan for a trip to crystal cove.

Pastor, huh. I'm a C/E catholic (my wife makes me go to church on Christmas and Easter!), but don't hold it against me.

    Hello All-

I’m posting this for a friend.

He has owned this '81 308 since '85 and has invested
~ $60K into it. He has finally decided to get out of
it since he dosen’t do any of the work himself and the
current shop it is at wants $20-30K to finish it.

This is the perfect car for the mechanic who knows
308’s and has the tools to reassemble it. The car has
the entire engine/power train installed with no
further work necessary(probably need new cam belts
again), basically it needs the listed missing parts
installed as well as the interior(which is
new/complete). Owner (at this point) wishes to sell
the entire car as a project car-and not to part out.

The owner lives in Minnesota and the car is at a
Ferrari specialist shop in Wisconsin. The car(at this
point) will remain at the shop untill sold. It will be
the buyers responsibility to obtain the car from the
    shop.

He is looking for offers over $10K, he would
probably take the first $15. If interested contact
me(Bob) at [email protected] and I will forward
you his(Jim's) phone number for specifics. The
following is what I remember about the car:

    GIVEN-

    1981 308 Ferrari.49774 actual miles.Last started
    5years ago.
    *All new cambelts
    *Air conditioner rebuilt
    *Suspension; disassembled/cleaned, replated where
    necessary,Koni shocks revalved-original,ball
joints/tie rod ends all new/ steering column
    reconditioned.
    *Interior; all new Broadcloth-headliners/back deck.All
new Conelly leather seats/trim panels etc.
*Paint; car stripped to metal repainted stock red.
*Wheels; all wheels repowder coated as stock & new
    center hubs, new tires.

    MISSING
    * Both passenger & driver side windows & electric
    motors
    * Horn & horn compressor
    * 4 wheel well skirts

    Thanks, Bob

    Brendan,
Welcome to F-Chat... if you are interested in a well-maintained, driven 308 QV, I have access to a 1984 QV, blk/blk, 65k miles, with a great interior and records. It can be had for a very good price. (probably better than you think!) PM me if you are interested.

LOL! Thanks for the tip... I hang out on a motorcycle forum (socalriders.com) too, and trust me a bunch of sport bikers get pretty colorful, especially given how many sailors and marines are among them. But I volunteer as a chaplain occasionally over at Pendleton and MCRD, and I myself am a Navy brat so I'm pretty immune to it. :)

Brendan, Im a fellow musician as well! How long have you played violin and viola? Ive been playing Bass for 7 years now and am going to college as a music major. I also play the Violone, which is the lowest member of the viola da gamba family, in a few Renaissance and Baroque chamber orchestras up here in Orange County.

My mom's a C/E Catholic too ;) Most of my family as well. They refer to me as "the convert"... lol.

Yes, I've considered GT4's... almost bought one this year, actually. But I really love the body styling of the targa topped GTB's and like-bodied 308's, and I'm willing to wait til I can get just the one I want.

Superyota: no, I'm afraid I don't know him. Do you know what church he's at?

Byron and Bob: Thanks, I appreciate the leads! My wife and I are in the process of buying our first home, so I need to wait til that's locked down before I move ahead with buying an F-car. And she'd really like me to sell our 92 Corrado SLC first as well, its undriven since we got her the Pathfinder. But when that goes, the money can go straight into the f-car fund so it's all good.

For now, I'm content to spend more time learning about the cars mechanically (to prepare for the work ahead), meeting the fellow enthusiasts, and putting some parts together in advance. I already have the Recaro seats with the 308 Recaro brackets that will be going into it once i have it.

What is this Crystal Cove you speak of? Sounds intriguing...

Jordan... very cool! I've played violin longest of all, let's see it's been 20 years now~ wow! I set it aside for a number of years and just picked it back up this year. so I'm working through the squeaks once more. I love the sound of the viola though, the timbre of the lower resonance is so nice.

Most of my time is spent playing on my red Musicman Axis guitar though, or on the Les Paul my wife got me for Christmas this year. Too many talented violists around to make me sound bad by comparison!
