Hi Wolfgang, Egypt is a wonderful country. I was there with Bea and my two ladies two years ago. I consider you to go snorchling and diving. We have alway met wonderful friendly people there. Give me a call whenever you are back from holiday. I wish to drive your baby ;-) PS: I have driven mine a few minutes before. Hm, every time it is something special for me to enter the car, plug in the key, start the engine and hear the wonderful sound of eight cylinders ;-) With red wishes Uwe Ricken
Its a small world...I've just got back from 4 days in Cairo...a birthday present for my girlfriend...its a crazy city, I love it. Busy going thru' the thousands of posts you guys have written since I left on thursday. salam alaikum See ya Simon
Simon, can you advice me any places I MUST go/see? Frerrari or Lamborghini dealers;-))))) I have never been in Egypt Wolfarossa FORZA FERRARI
Hey Wolfgang you'll love it. Its a crazy city, but totally alive. The worst thing about it is the pollution and dirt...oh and the mad taxi drivers. You have to visit the standard tourist places..the pyramids...the Egyptian Museum..the Kahn El Kallili and the Citadel. I've got a friend out there which was great for getting to know all those places the locals visit but that the tourist don't know. I'll get together a list of restaurants and places worth visiting for you. There was also a lot to learn from her about how to avoid getting riped off by the taxi drivers for instance. I'll put an email together for you. I'm assuming if you're there for 2 weeks that you'll be in different places in Egypt not just Cairo? I'm already jealous...I landed last night and getting into work this morning was soooo hard See ya Simon
Simon, thank you so much in advance. I aprreciate your help very much `cause I don`t want to hang around 2 weeks at the beach. We are located in Huagahra or something like this...don`t know exactly. Wolfarossa FORZA FERRARI
Hi Wolfgang, Debs and I spent 10 days in Egypt in 2001. We flew to Abu Simbel in the south and then worked our way down the Nile to Cairo, stopping at Aswan, Luxor (Elephant Island) and Thebes. We loved it and had a great time. On our next visit we want to do Sharm Al Shaik and/or Ras Mohammed to do some good scuba diving. ENJOY!! MARK
Thanks Mark & Simon, any recommendations are very, very welcome. Restaurants, Bars, Places must see....a.s.o. We will rent a Jeep and try to see as muchas possible in 2 weeks. Wolfarossa FORZA FERRARI
Wolf, Buy the "Lonely Planet" guide to Egypt - it's the best IMHO. Travelling in a jeep may be a bit challenging as you can only cross certain areas in military convoys. We found it more convenient to catch flight & trains and then to use taxis - it was faster, more efficient and DEFINITELY less frustrating! ALWAYS negotiate a price with taxi drivers up front! Even when you do this, be prepared to be screwed!! Excellent place - I love it! Cheers, MARK
Mark, ups, didn`t know this. Thanks for the hint. So maybe its better a guided tour? Wolfarossa FORZA FERRARI
Mark I definitely agree about the Lonely Planet...they're a must for any travel abroad. They also say about setting the price up front for taxis...which is probably the safest way to do it. No arguments at the end. However, after a few taxi journeys, and some advice from friends the way to do it as "einheimische" is to give them what you think it was worth. They will always ask for more but the secret is not to reply, just walk away. That means get out of the taxi before you pay. If he follows you or calls the police then perhaps you gave too little. It takes a bit of guts cos its not the european way of paying someone. See ya Simon Wolfgang, its all a learning experience...enjoy doing it wrong a few times...I did
Mark & Simon, thank you so much for all your hints & tips, I realy appreciate it. Well about the cab drivers....I`m a dealer and love to deal - thats my job and I`m used in and love it! But I`m also sure, that I will learn my lessons;-) Wolfarossa FORZA FERRARI
Hi Wolfgang, Right about NOW you should be having your first Egyptian taxi experience!! I tried all strategies - not negotiating a price, agreeing a price up front, paying what I thought the journey was worth, etc - and INVARIABLY ended up having a shouting match! Enjoy yourself Wolfgang...and watch your blood pressure! Cheers, MARK
Mark, we will, we will! we have already booked tody a QUAD tour (4 wheel motorcycle) thru the Sahara ...with all the goodies. No, you are of course right, its not the place to drive a cap, rent a car or to go lonesome thru the country....I clearly se what you are talking about Wolfarossa & Anja Greetings from Egypt
Wolfdesertrat, Quad biking in the desert should be awesome - I am envious. It's a pity that you don't dive as the Red Sea is a top location. Cheers, MARK
Mark, yep Quad biking is real, real fun! We have done this in Senegal 2 years ago and in Gran Canaria. Its a 5 hours trip in the desert and we have booked this tour 2 times. They are offering 2 different trips in the mountains and desert. About diving, I know its a pity not diving in the red sea...I prefer jet-skiing here and like to eat (and not see) all this beautiful sea food. Wolfarossa & Anja Greetings from Egypt
