I was stopped in my 328 by a CHP Motorcycle cop today....I was driving my 9 yr old nephew in the car for the first time and, while well within the speed limit, did accelerate someone faster than the other cars around me, but not ridiculously so, just a "little enthusiastically" so! ;-) After the usual license, registration request he commented that my car was in great condition for the year. He proceeded to tell me my wheels were dirty! He then told me to be on my way and to watch my speed. OK......I was expecting the no front license plate or maybe watch my acceleration...but dirty wheels!!!!

I had to smile and my nephew got a kick out of it.......he's from the UK so being stopped by an American cops was a thrill I guess.

Anyone else had any "silly" CHP stops?

    Cheers! Paul.

    A plain story:

I got pulled over about a month ago in 57FWY while riding on my Ducati, the cop was saying I made an unsafe lane change which I didn't think so.

One cop was running my records while the other on was walking all over me checking out the bike.

After the usual chat and record checking, of course he let me go. And before he I took off, one of the officers says "Get a 999!".

So I'm like "Well, I don't like the 999, but I'm thinking about 998R". So we chat about Ducati for the next 20 minutes and wrap up the day.

    :D

    I got pulled over twice:

Once cause my car looked too clean and the other was my glass was too tinted...guilty on the clean but the tint was factory and did not appreciate the lecture on CA laws WRT tinting..

my favorite to date was 2yrs ago in my M3.
my wife and i made run over to IN/OUT for some late night munchies (she was about 7mths pregnant) i make a left turn on a green onto central park he's three cars back on Irvine facing me waiting to make the right onto said street. by the time he gets to turn I'm halfway up the street and a few hundred yards from hitting the gaurd gate, he lights up bar and hits the sirens to follow me in to my neihbor hood, we are now on private property.

I pull over and wait, he comes up along side gun UNHOLSTERD! and flash light scoping out the car. I ask him ho he's doing, no answer okay? can i help you? still no answer! he then asks me to remove the keys from the ignition and hand over my reg/license but no insurance? he goes back to the car and i wait another 10 mins. he returns with my papers and asks me how fast i was going, honestly i had no idea and asked if he had taged me with rader/laser? he said "nope just looked like you were going fast" ummm sounds fishy to me i think, "i'll go slower next time, but could you please tell me how fast i should be traveling on the road since it's not posted?" he says "i really don't know"
at this point i'm trying to refrain my self from laughing at him and smacking him upside the head. (prima fascia speed is 35mph).no ticket though. it all finishes with him saying "well it looks like you're heading home and she looks like she could use some rest."

to this day i still haven't figured that one out. my neighbor who is an officer said most likely i fit some discription of somebody they were after and since i wasn't it, he didn't know how to cover.

I also got pulled over with my wife very pregnant, we were making a craving run to Jack in the Box at about 1am. Cop followed me about a block, then pulled us over. Three more units pulled up while he was giving us the usual license + reg bit. My wife's already pretty annoyed from being delayed from her snack craving fulfillment, and hormones are in overdrive, so she's being a bit snappy with the officers.

Long story short, she went off on them like you wouldn't believe. I don't think we ever would have gotten away with it, but she was so blatantly hormonal, I mean she started to cry after yelling at them because "they were so mean for pulling over a pregnant lady when she was on a craving run"... they let us go shortly after.

    g60racer,

Did you get an escort after that tirade? I'll bet the cop felt sorry for you.

I am surprised, because I would think the cops would pull you over just to get a look at you

Jimmy, if you sell let me know :D

As for me, no tickets in 6 years of driving. However 2 years ago got pulled over in Seattle in my trusty beat up honda wagon doing 94mph downhill on a I-5 60mph limit by southcenter. Cop looked at the peeling paint, and just shook his head. I told him no way my car goes that fast, its a an old grandma car, that barely runs. He just shook his head, and said "kids these days" and let me go with a warning and told me it is a reckless endangerment charge in WA to drive that fast :D

    CLean record here otherwise. :)

This one happened about two years ago in my old 88 928. I was making the exit from the 101 to the 405 south at high speed. Didn't even bother looking back and just blasted up the hill. Near the crest I happen to glance in the mirror to see a CHP unit way way back. I slowed to near the speed limit and stayed in my lane just in case it wasn't for me. No dice. The bullhorn asks me to pull right and make the next exit which I do. Female officer driving and her male partner get out and approach the passenger side window which I have down. First thing she says is, "That was some speed you were doing up the hill, my car was struggling to keep up, I thought it was going to overheat." All I do is smile and say, "oh.". She takes my info goes back to start writing while the other cop checks out the car. No tint, front tag is on so Im not even worried about it. She comes back with a 93mph hour ticket and I sign. She tells me to take it easy and I tell her I have a question which I asked with a smile on my face, "how hard was your car struggling?" (Yeah, I was in high spirits, I don't let cops ruin my day or night.) She doesn't know how to answer and blurts out that "I'm really good at my job, anyone can run in a straight line, it takes skill to handle the car." I just look at her and say, "but I thought it was going to overheat?" The male cop kind of just looked at her too and I told them both to have a safe night.
