I was told American Express could not be used and I would not get any FF points if it could so.....

Is it just me or does this just seem like a way to dig yourself deeper? I'm sure they nail you with extra fees for this. Check the IRS web site and they'll gladly tell you.

I was going to until I saw there were transaction fees. Was wanting some "freebie" FF miles. Sent the check off a few weeks ago.

I'd also thin you'd be paying a convenience fee as credit card companies tack on a discount fee (%) to their merchants...You'd end up paying more than you owe for your taxes due to this...(assuming)

You are correct, the discount rate is passed on to the payer.

Hm. Could you pay your taxes with a credit card, then dispute the charges because you didn't get what you expected for your money??? ;)

If I can get a clear answer from Amex...Read: Anyone here work for them??... I would!!! the 2.5% for almost 500,000 FF miles would make it worth it to me.

Hell that would be at least three trips to Thailand!!!!

The surcharge of 2.5% would be $12.5K(?), the AE FF miles are only transferred at 80%(?), so you would get 400K miles. Is that worth it?

If you use your AMEX to pay for your income taxes, you get that 2.5% surcharge added PLUS you do get the FF miles too.

my coworkers also laughed when I pitched the idea of a wireless company 2+ years ago, they laughed in my face. I laughed with them and now I'm crying because I run that company now and have a F- that I can't even drive because I have too much work and instead I waste my time on F- chat.

I used my credit card to pay part of my taxes, United airlines was offering 2 miles for every dollar spent, i earnt 100,000 air miles on one card, & another 42000 miles on another card, 142000 airmiles total, that cost me $1775.00 in commision, with those 142000 air miles, i purchased two 1st class airline tickets to Venice Italy in June for 10 days of R&R, i did have to use 58000 miles from my united air miles account, but the moral is, i was able to get 2 1st class round trip tickets to Europe for $1775.00, if i had to purchase those tickets, they would have cost me over $30,000.00

When the bill comes in, i'll send them a check, so to be fare, it was a great offer for me, but 95% of people, it's not.
