Now that the real fraud has been exposed, I have a serious question to ask those that have more experience in such matter than I do. (Thought it might be considered too tactless to ask when everyone was giving Steve their condolences on his "loss")

How should the financial transactions be handled for this sort of international deal? Something like a Letter of Credit or an Escrow service perhaps.

I ask because, if all goes according to plan, in the next 3-4 years I should be in a position to purchase a 288GTO or F40, granted not the value of the classics we are talking about here, but enough for me to be very nervous about parting with my hard earned $$$.

    Inspect the car personally.
Have an independant expert vet it.
Use a lawyer that has expertise in this area.
    Deal with reputable people.
    Standard stuff.

Wow! This is really a shock that someone would pull something like this on a super rare car. Even my little ol GTB is rare and I know two people now that have history on it.

But let is not forget...damn that is a nice car!

What a crock of BS. This guy never bought the car and if he was dumb enough to wire over 500,000 pounds without any safeguards then he deserves to have been con.

Most people who actually earn that kind of money are quite savvy in their business dealings.

The sad thing is, Steve obviously knows something about cars. Too bad he wastes his knowledge trying to make us all think he's a big shot.

so how many other owners on here arnt what they seem then??
i wonder if ferrari have ever made as many cars that are claimed to
    be owned........

back to the trust thing i guess! maybe posting chassis numbers??

Look for this 275 GTB/C in this month's Forza. It received second place in the Sports Racing/Competition class at the Newport Concours. And, no, Steve was not there to pick up his prize. However, the car's owner, John Siroonian, was.

    Steve,

You don't have to own a Ferrari to be an enthusiast. I don't and may never do ... so what, will be a shame but that is all. I am restoring an Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV and really an Alfa Romeo fan first and foremost. I still see Ferrari as taking over the reins from Alfa Romeo ... ;)

You also do not have to be an owner to have valuable information for others to share ...

Honesty is just so much easier ... not maybe as much fun, but I like the easy life :D

That's what I like about this section of the forum. The true car enthusiast seem to spend a little time here and it's always interesting.

It is quite impossible to know many things for sure on the net. After reading this thread I can't help but feel deep skepticism regarding Steve275. Ok, perhaps I am wrong, but there's nothing here that inspires 'trust'.

FYI: this thread is rather lame compared to the one that is to be found in the Northwest Chapter under 'dealer complaints'. Get your popcorn and check it out. You are in for one twisted ride. Make sure that you check the news links towards the end.
