Are Canadian 328's in fact US cars?

Yes they are with 2 exceptions:

1. Different seat belts (in some cases) than US spec cars

2. Speedometer is in KPH rather than MPH

 

I believe that they also have daytime running lights.

 

Daytime running lights began with the 1990 model year and therefore with the 348's

 

I came close to buying an "89 328 from Brian Jessel in Vancouver and was told that it had daytime running lights because of Canadian requirements. I never saw the car so I cannot verify that statement.

 

I have looked at two or three Canadian 328's, and while not conclusive, the only difference I noticed off hand was the speedo in kph with mph in lower scale. That was all. No drls that I have ever seen on a 328 driving in Vancouver....

 

In addition to the speedo in Km/H, like Mondial 3.2's and newer, Canadian 328's had little boxes tucked up into the corners of the front grille to hide higher-rated bumper shocks (at that time, U.S. cars were tested at 2.5mph for bump resistance and Canadian cars were at the equivalent to 5mph). I suspect that all Mondials needed the higher-rated bumpers regardless of market because it was a heavier car.
