I vote for Chrome! While we're on the subject, here's a little history behind our beloved marquee whilst visiting one of our Sponsor sites. Go to: www.************.com Then click on "The Ferrari Prancing Horse Logo Story" Read, then browse for Ferrari stuff!
My 91TR has an original mat black horse on the back with no horse on the front - I like it a lot, bc it doesn't call as much attention to the car. All personal taste I guess. I vote to gold plate the horses -jk-
I think that the black roast (is it right?) match well with a black horse. Black horse is more sober... On the picture ('92 348 TS, came from UK), you can see that rear lights are paint in black... I prefere like this... Black horse seems to be a good idea...(if I found one..) (the "348 TS" is also entirely in black) Some of 348 haven't got front horses (I believe that it was first..). Why not?
Two another pictures. We can see better the rear side... Where can we find a black horse? It's a good idea... If I remenber well, black horses are flat, no?
My 86 TR has the original black horse on the back & no horse on the front. Never liked it being a flat piece, buy that's the way it is.
> If I remenber well, black horses are flat, no? < ..Er, no. This is on my `94 348 TS. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Later TRs also had the large sculpted black version (but the lighting in that 348 jpeg gives more accent to the curves/shapes than you get in normal viewing -- I opted for to go to the chrome version).
Although, probably not original, here are the chrome cavallinos on the front and rear of my TR (my personal preference is the chrome ones): Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bab13 -- I checked the TR SPC, and they show 2 different PNs for the large black horse (probably for the "flat" and "sculpted" versions). It doesn't give any indication of when the change was made -- just the usual generic note: "when you run out of type A use the type B" so it could be a fairly mixed/vague change-over.
I have a bronze horse on the back of my 348 (none on the front grille). I don't know if it was original from the factory or not as I didn't have it from new, but it certainly wasn't an amateur slappng a bit of paint on a chrome one. I've never seen another one with the same which at least makes mine easy to recognize in a line up! Jonathan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chrome looks best to me. I changed out my flat black back to chrome sculpted and added a small chrome sculpted to the front as well.
I don't understand when the 348 (or TR) had got black flat cavalino and if it was a original part... I like the black flat version. It matchs good with 80's - 90's years. In bronze: why not!
Oh, yes, mine is original. My 86TR is the first model type that I'm aware of. It has the single side mirror, mounted halfway up the post, so I assume that the flat black horse was certainly among the first, if not the first, type mounted in the early TR years.
