I decided to drive the Ferrari to work this morning, and had just got on the highway. The car felt great and traffic had just opened up, so I gave it some gas. I was cruising at about 85 and glanced to other side of the highway, just in time to see a state trooper standing on his brakes and heading for the median. It was a 60 zone, there wasn't another car within 150 ft of me, I was toast. I watched the trooper hit the grass and try to cross the low drainage portion of the median. As he started up the other side, a huge chunk of dirt and grass flew up, and I'd guess he did some body damage to his car. The ditch was too low, he couldn't get through it. He didn't try again, he just headed back for the road going the opposite direction. My luck seems to be running strong, maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket!

I did take the next exit and took back roads the rest of the way to work. No sense in trying to outrun Motorola.

    Texas trooper are so hard-ass.

I saw a speed trap once last year: one trooper was hiding behind a freeway sign (on the overpass) with his radar gun zapping traffic and radioing ahead for his 5-6 friends to pull people over.

Radar detector, holy Valentine one, thou shall save the world from the zealous of revenue generators. Get one, use one, and stay alert.

    Texas!
Jim, something similar happened to me driving to SA. I had a Vette for a rabbit in front of me who was doing an even 100. So I let him get roughly 1/2 mile ahead.

I'm crusing in the rocking chair when I come over a hill and see a trooper fishtailing onto the freeway. FLATSPOT time! (and for the truck behind me). The trooper must have spotted the Vette from the feeder and cut accross the grass to get him. Nuts

I don't know. Maybe these guys are getting brownie points for nailing "race cars."

Regular cops are okay, it's the mini bike moped cops that get on my nerves. All they are good for is giving tickets.

Good thing you didn't make a run for it. I was expecting to see Irving police, TDPS, & CBS chopper 11 all involved in a high speed pursuit.

It'd be great if the police would stick to looking for real crimes rather than hiding behind bushes with radar guns trying to pay for that new police station. That kind of behavior erodes the public's respect for the police.

Correct me if I am wrong, but speeding is a crime, right?
    http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=crime

Not saying I do not speed but it is their job to ENFORCE laws at all times, and speeding is breaking the law.

Funny side note-Getting on the Freeway this morning, the on ramp that I use has metering lights, and it is common for the CHP to sit on the ramp around one of the bends to wait for the carpool viaolators. As I am waiting, a car passes the CHP, who is not even paying attention that he is a single in the Carpool lane, and then he puts on his turn signal, and tries to cut in, which then causes a back up of all the car poolers, which then the CHP notices. To say the least, busted. If he would have kept driving, she would have never noticed it.

do a ride along with a police officer.....you'd be amazed at how little traffic enforcment they normally do....(unless its a traffic grant from the federal government, due to public outcry, or a dedicated traffic enforcment unit

Speeding is a crime but theres people out there robbing stores with guns and knifes killing people. Speeding you have the potential to kill someone, but if your the only one within a few miles, you can only kill yourself.

    Texas!
I understand your point of view. However, the behavior of most law officers today is directly tied to various grants. In my county, the local Sheriff got a grant to bust dopers. Guess what happened to the local bust rate? Guess what happened several years later when the Sheriff couldn't account for all the grant money? That's right, the FBI starts using its resources to investigate the Sheriff, who got into this mess going after federal grant money.

Besides that, driving across grass median strips and fish tailing onto I-10 at 60+mph just to catch a speeding Vette is not a smart thing to do. Fortunately, I was paying attention. Even more fortunately, the trucker behind me was also paying attention.

yep the FBI did its job when investigating the sheriff...

and i agree that some cops make bad choices....but don't use the statement "dumb ass cops"...which is the statment that made me chime in this thread.. it would be someone that says all ferrari owners are arrogant...which just isn't the case

    Agreed 100%.

You also have a CFO to run finances within a company and a CEO to run a company. Likewise, you have a traffic enforcement officer to write tickets and take a report when some a'hole rear ends you, and a beat cop to investigate that liquor store robbery.

I agree....speeding sensibly doesn't hurt anyone. There are a lot more serious issues than speeding. Besides....I see the speed limit as a suggestion.

LoL!! I imagined that and it does sound funny!! Some ppl have no sense of humor at all...take the stick out of your a$$ and take a joke like the rest of us.

Isn't it true that running from the police in Texas is now a felony offense? If they had radioed ahead to catch you, and you even admitted for one instance that you had seen the first police car attempting to come after you, would that not be an admission that you were indeed "running from the cops", and therefore you now have a felony on your permanent record? Goodbye right to bear arms, goodbye right to vote, and a zillion other social privelages. Is it really worth it?
