At least he DROVE the car, unlike the many, many poseurs out there. Needs to work on pace, but you have to start somewhere.
Hmmm, wonder if the driver had anything to do with this... Actually, I give Alan credit for getting out there and mixing it up. Too many of us don't get past the bench racing stage.
i wonder why he didn't take the Diablo...? i bet if he did, his time would be even slower... tsk, tsk...
Autocross is a tuff game these days. If your in a street class and not on DOT race tires, you lose badly. Plus it looks like they put him in ASP = A street prepared (they often bump you up a class if there are not 3 cars in your class), so the cars he was racing had suspensions set up for autocross. I'd say only losing by 3 or 4 seconds is actually a pretty good showing. When I go they though me in E modified (because my engine is modified) which is a catch all class for qany race car with over a 2 liter engine, so the guys I'm racing are in actual race cars on slicks...I consider it a great day when I only lose by 3 seconds....although I did recently aquire a second set of wheels fitted with slicks for my next go at it
interesting how a maxima beat not only allans 355, but also a z06..it goes to show that for the arguing people do about hp and whos car is faster, it up to the driver to a large degree!!!!
I don't really like the way Allan conducts himself here at Fchat but I really give him credit for racing at all in any class where ever. I know there are lots of racers on this forum, but the very great majority, by far have limited their racing to 0-40 mph dashes from traffic lights.
Autocross is great for this as underpowered and experienced drivers can thrash power and less talent every time. Allan was only versed in drag strip straight lines. That's why I always told him I could beat his Diablo in a 115 HP Rx7 on the track. Inexperienced AX'ers and trackers dont realize how much time is just on the driver. AX is a great place to start though. I'm a better road racer because I AX'd for 2 years beforehand. Ferraris are pigs on the AX course too, they're meant for higher speed transitions.
Even worse are the guys who only punches it when the light 1/4 mile ahead of them turns red, lift after two seconds and complain about the traffic at breakfast! To those I say, "Get a YUGO!" DL
I think the course was probably very very tight which really favors the small light cars over hp, on a little bit bigger/longer course or one with a lot of elevation change, the higher hp cars really start to come to the top. Just looking at the times, and knowing that 3-4 seconds is the race/street tire slip, it appears that 37 was probably a good street tire time, anybody faster than that was probably on race tires. So Allan was slow, but not bad if it's his first time out.
Agreed. Mini's ran 33-35, were in SM, so prob not much to gain...tight course. I always used to take my thumper cars to vette club AX, had more working room.
I just find it funny that after bashing the 355 all the time, when going out to a competitive race he left the Lambo home. Surely, given the Lambo's absolute superiority, it would have provided not only a more enjoyable driving experience but better lap times. Actions speak louder than words... Ernesto
These ricers are all highly Modified vehicles.. Lets see how they stand up to a Highly Modified Ferrari.. NO CHANCE !!!!!!!
The 355 is Allan's beater car... not too worried about putting a dent in it. I still laugh when he use to talk about leaving it out in the rain with the top down He was funny.
What does this really prove? No let me preface the following by clearly stating that I've never been on the Track. That said, I have read a lot of threads that pertain to Track Racing and there are a couple of undisputable Facts: (1)You must be properly set up. (If you're Serious) (2) Time on the Track (many, many Laps ) Will Alan be taking his Diablo to the Track? Probably not, But If he does, I'll bet he gets a set of Race Slicks and spends a little time on the Track before Race Time. (Wouldn't want to embarrass the marquee?) Every Thread and Post Response from Alan has always been about Drag Racing. Straight Line and preferably from a rolling start, which is fine, and to his credit, he has had (by all accounts), a lot of Fast Cars. But to be down by only 5 seconds at the end of the Race with no Slicks and little or no Track Time seems pretty respectable to me, in a Ferrari or what ever.. All you'll hear from Alan is how his Ferrari got spanked, what you won't hear is his lack of track time had anything to do with his performance. You see, Alan (Allanlambo), has also become (ViperRocks) "A longtime Lurker" (his words) . http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14964&page=4&pp=20 (Pg 4) Unfortunately, as a parting shot, he merely wanted to finally abuse and/or discredit the 355 (and Marquee) before selling or trading it for a Viper.
Are you seriously that stupid? Have you ever run an autocross? The 300ZX and 350Z that were running circles around Allan in the 355 were completely stock -- as were most of the cars (AS, BS, HS class). SCCA is class-based, and modifying your car puts you out of class...if the "ricers" you're talking about were modified, they would be listed in a different class. The real irony of this situation is that Allan was running in ASP, which is the "Street Prepared" category -- that means his car was modded and the others weren't, not the other way around! Hah!
I applaud Allan for entering. Interesting he took the Ferrari; must be the most tossable of his fleet. No Ferrari is any good in ASP; they always seem to finish badly. I think an Enzo would be okay but who knows. If he wants to race in ASP, nothing will beat a Lotus Europa except a better driver. It's fun to see a 30 year old car thrash the Vettes and RX7's. Ken
